    (54) Gable-top container

    (57) A gable-top container made from a scored blank (1A) of paperboard and the like includes at least one fillet (56) permanently attached to the outside surface of at least one of the panels which form the spout. The fillet (56) comprises a thin strip (61) of stiff material coated with a layer of adhesive (62). The strip (61) is resistant to the carton-sealing process, and extends along a major portion of the panel length to transfer to applied container-opening forces to the tip of the spout preventing buckling of the spout panels. In the preferred embodiment, the portion of the fillets (56) on the adjoining panels about one another when the spout is in a closed condition. A secondary layer of adhesive having a lesser bonding force may overlay the abutting portions of the fillets to controllably seal opposing panels to each other at the particular desired bond strength.
