(57) A method of conditioning fabrics comprises contacting the fabrics in an aqueous environment
with a fabric conditioning agent. The fabric conditioning agent comprises an organofunctional
polyalkyl siloxane having the general formula (I)
wherein each R is independently an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, each
of R¹, R², and R³ is independently an alkyl group containing 1 to 24 carbon atoms,
or R³ is the group (CH₂)qCOO⁻ where q is 0 to 10, A is divalent hydrocarbon group
interrupted by or substituted with one or more oxygen containing groups, X is an alkoxylated
group, Z is a monovalent anion or the equivalent thereof, n and m are positive integers,
p is a positive integer and r is a positive integer or zero such as to render the
siloxane electrically neutral.
