Ionomer compositions and method for their preparation |
(57) Ionomers in the salt form, such as the ammonium salts of sulfonated polystyrene,
are precipitated from solution in a non-polar organic liquid by contact with a polar
liquid in which the ionomer has only limited solubility (e.g., methanol) and a particulate
solid such as a polyphenylene ether, followed by contact with a salt such as ammonium
chloride, preferably in solution in the polar liquid. The resulting ionomer-coated
polyphenylene ether particles are easily filtered and handled.
