    (54) Webbing retractor

    (57) When a tensile force of at least a predetermined value is applied to a webbing (W), a webbing retractor allows the webbing to extend over a length increased beyond that available from mere tightening of the webbing wound on a take-up spindle (3) by the tensile force. The retractor includes a base (1); the take-up spindle (3) carrying the webbing fastened at one end thereof to the take-up spindle; a lock device (2,10) for locking rotation of the take-up spindle in a webbing-releasing direction; and a webbing-extension increasing member (8) capable of undergoing a deformation or collapse in a transmission route of the tensile force from the take-up spindle to the base upon application of the tensile force subsequent to locking of the take-up spindle by the lock device.
