    (54) A pen watch band


    (57) A pen watchband for watches includes: a watchband body (2) made of flexible material; a plurality of flexible metal lines (29) and a writing instrument (4) integrally inbedded in the watchband body (2) with a writing pointed tip (40) of the writing instrument (4) projecting at a free end of the watchband body (2); a pair of pivot joints (20, 21) integrally formed at a middle portion of the watchband body (2); a retaining ring (5) with a guide passage (50) movably arranged at a rear portion of the watchband body (2); and a fastening device (3) adjustably disposed at both ends of the watchband body (2); thereby, both writing instrument and watch can be worn on the wrist at all times for convenient use.




    Description


    [0001] This invention relates to a pen watchband for watches, and more particularly to a flexible watchband body having a writing instrument integrally incorporated therein for practical usage.

    [0002] It can be appreciated that pen and watch are indispensable articles required by everyone. It would be very inconvenient if either one of them were not readily available. In order to combine these two articles into a single unit, an electronic pen watch composed of a liquid-crystal display (LCD) watch module and a ball-­point pen has been developed for meeting the every day requirements of individuals. However, since a watch is usually worn not only for keeping time but also for ornamentation, the unattractive features of the electronic pen watch certainly cannot satisfy this requirement. Moreover, almost everybody prefers to wear a watch because it can be conveneiently worn on the wrist; whereas, since the electronic pen-watch is designed to be hung in a breast pocket, in the absence of a breast pocket, it would be necessary to carry it in a hand bag, posing a certain inconvenience for the user. Furthermore, there is no need to wear a wrist watch as well as to carry a pen- watch at the same time.

    [0003] It is accordingly a primary object of this invention to provide a novel pen watchband by which a writing instrument can be inseparably carried along with a wrist watch for convenient use.

    [0004] This and other objects can be achieved according to this invention by providing a novel pen watchband which comprises a watchband body made of flexible material with a front portion and a rear portion, a plurality of flexible metal lines integrally inbedded in parallel in the watchband body, an adaptable writing instrument with a ball-point tip at one end and an open section at the other integrally incorporated into the front portion of the watchband, a pivot joint means provided on a middle portion of the watchband body for being connected with a known wrist watch, a retaining means with a guide passage movably disposed at the rear portion of the watchband body for positioning the ball-point tip of the writing instrument, and a fastening means separately arranged at each end of the watchband; thereby, pen and watch can be worn on the wrist for convenient use.

    [0005] This invention resides in the incorporation of a writing instrument with a watchband by which a wrist watch together with a writing instrument can be worn on the wrist.

    [0006] This invention further resides in the structure of the pen watchband which can be made in either a continuous strap or separately paired straps with pivot joint means provided thereon for making connections with a known wrist watch.

    [0007] This invention resides further still in the structure of the pen watchband with a plurality of flexible metal lines integrally inbedded in the watchband body so that during writing, the watchband body can be straightened for the purpose of holding it in hand.

    [0008] This invention resides further still in the structure of the pen watchband of which the ball-point tip of the writing instrument protrudes from the free end of the front portion of the watchband for writing purpose while the ball-point tip can also be adjustably positioned in the guide passage of the retaining means as a safety precaution when the pen watchband is worn on the wrist.

    [0009] Other advantages and characteristics of this invention will become clear from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of a pen watchband when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:

    Figure 1 is an explosive and perspective view of a preferred embodiment of a pen watchband according to this invention;

    Figure 1A is a cross sectional view of a coupling means of the preferred embodiment taken along the line A-­Aʹ of Fig. 1;

    Figure 2 is an illustrative view of the preferred embodiment shown in combination; and

    Figure 3 is an explosive and perspective view of an alternative example of the pen watchband according to this invention.



    [0010] Referring to Figs. 1, 1A and 2, the preferred embodiment of a pen watchband according to this invention comprises: a watchband body 2 with a front portion and a rear portion; a pen 4 integrally incorporated into the front portion of the watchband body 2; a pair of pivot joints 20 and 21 integrally formed on a middle portion for making connections with a known wrist watch 1 (it is preferable to select a digital watch enclosed in a plastic case for making a better match with the watchband body 2); fastening means 3 separately arranged at each end of the watchband body 2; and a retaining ring 5 with a guide passage 50, as shown in Fig. 2, movably provided around a the rear portion of the watchband body 2.

    [0011] The watchband body 2 is made of flexible material (it is to be noted that the flexibility of the watchband body 2 is of some hardness so that it is suitable to be held in hand for writing operation) having a plurality of flexible metal lines 29 integrally inbedded in the front portion and an air inlet 42 provided in the upper end thereof. The pen 4 including a pliable tube 41 with writing ink contained therein, a ball-point tip 40 at one end and an open section at the other, is also integrally incorporated into the front portion of the watchband body 2 between the metal lines 29 thereof with the ball-point tip 40 projecting at the free end of the front portion and the open section located below the air inlet 42. As shown, each one of the pivot joints 20 and 21 has a pin hole 23, 24 in the center through which the wrist watch 1 is combined with the watchband body 2 by using a pair of pivot pins 23 and 24 respectively disposed in the related orifices 11 of the watch lugs 10. In addition, when the pen tube 41 is integrally inbedded in the watchband body 2, a ridge line 28 slightly protrudes upward along a central line of the watchband body 2 as shown in Fig. 1A.

    [0012] The fastening means 3 includes: a friction-type buckling device composed of a fixed member 32 for being sleevingly coupled with the front portion of the watchband body 2 and an adjusting member 33 pivotally coupled with the fixed member 32 for being adjustably set in catch with the fixed member 32 along the front portion of the watchband body 2; and a "velcro" device composed of a "hook" member 30 fixed at the rear end of the watchband body 2 and a "loop" member 31 disposed on top of the fixed member 33 for being adjustably coupled with the "hook" member 30 along with the friction-type buckling device, which can be positioned along the front portion of the watchband body 2 according to the wrist size of the user.

    [0013] As shown in Fig. 2, the combined pen watchband body 2 can be worn on the wrist by first, bending the front portion of the watchband body 2 on the wrist, then adjusting the adjusting member 33 according to one's wrist size, and finally, putting the "hook" member 30 over the "loop" member 31 and pressing them together for proper connection around the wrist with the free end of the watchband body 2 being inserted into the retaining ring 5 and the ball-point tip 40 located in the guide passage 50 for safety puupose.

    [0014] Referring to Fig. 3, there is shown an alternative example of the watchband body 2, which is made of the same material and provided with the same pivot joints 20, 21 and fastening means 3 as shown in Fig. 1 except that the watchband body 2 is separately formed in two parts. Meanwhile, combination and wearing operations of the alternative example are also the same as that described and illustrated hereinbefore with reference to Fig. 2.

    [0015] While this invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to a preferred embodiment thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and detail may be made therein without departing from the scope of this invention.


    Claims

    1. A pen watchband for watches comprising:
    a watchband body (2) made of flexible material and formed in a front portion and a rear portion with an air inlet (42) provided in an upper end of the front portion;
    a plurality of flexible metal lines (29) integrally inbedded in parallel in said watchband body (2) for facilitating easy straightening and bending operations of said watchband body (2) therewith;
    a writing means (4) with a writing tip (40) at one end and an open section at another end integrally inbedded in the front portion of said watchband body (2) between said flexible metal lines (29) with the writing tip (40) projecting at a free end of the front portion and the open section located below said air inlet (42) for facilitating writing operation therewith;
    pivot joint means (20, 21) symmetrically provided at a middle portion of said watchband body (2) for being connected to a known watch through a plurality of pivot pins (25);
    a retaining means (5) movably disposed at the rear portion of said watchband body (2) for holding the free end of the front portion; and
    fastening means (3) separately provided at the front portion and the rear portion of said watchband body (2) for detachably connecting the front and rear portions therewith; whereby, a writing instrument and a wrist watch can be simultaneously worn at all times for convenient use.
     
    2. A pen watchband according to Claim 1 wherein said pivot joint means include a pair of pivot joints (20, 21) each having a pin hole (23, 24) integrally formed therein for making pivotal connections therewith.
     
    3. A pen watchband according to Claim 1 wherein said retaining means (5) comprises a retaining ring (5) having a guide passage (50) provided in an inner surface thereof for receiving the writing tip (40) of the writing instrument when said watchband body is worn on the wrist.
     
    4. A pen watchband according to Claim 1 wherein said fastening means (3) comprises:
    a buckling device composed of a fixed member (32) for being movably sleeved around the front portion of said watchband body (2) and an adjusting member (33) pivotally connected to said fixed member (32) for securing the fixed member (32) at a position along the front portion of said watchband body (2); and
    a pair of "hook" and "loop" straps (30, 31) separately disposed on a rear end of said watchband body (2) and a top surface of said fixed member (32) so as to effect fastening operations of said watchband body (2) around the wrist.
     
    5. A pen watchband for watches substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
