Corrosion - inhibited antifreeze formulation |
(57) A corrosion-inhibited antifreeze concentrate formulation containing no phosphate,
amine, or nitrite compounds consists essentially of:
(a) a major amount of a water soluble liquid alcohol freezing point depressant;
(b) from 0.1-5.0 weight percent of a C₆-C₁₂ aliphatic monobasic acid or the alkali
metal salt thereof;
(c) from 0.1-5.0 weight percent of an alkali metal borate compound; and
(d) from 0.1-0.5 weight percent of a hydrocarbyl triazole.
The concentrate formulation and aqueous antifreeze formulations of the instant invention
give synergistic corrosion protection for a variety of metal surfaces as compared
with compositions containing only the aliphatic monobasic acid/salt or alkali metal
borate component alone.
