    (54) Box with transparent lid

    (57) A box (10), particularly for confectionery products, comprises a cardboard body (12) with a flat base wall (14) and a double-walled peripheral frame (16), and a shaped tray (18) for containing the products which is adapted to be inserted in the space between the base wall (14) and the frame (16). The box (10) further includes a tray-like transparent cover (20) having a peripheral wall (20a) which is adapted to be inserted between the containing tray (18) and the inner wall (16a) of the frame (16), the cover (20) having on its perimetral wall (20a) shaped projections (22) corresponding in shape to apertures (A) of the frame (16), which are used for the automatic forming of the box, to fix the cover (20) and the tray (18) to the body (12) of the box (10).

    Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a box, particularly for confectionery products, of the type comprising a cardboard body provided with a flat base wall and a double-walled peripheral frame, apertures used during the automatic forming of the box being disposed in the inner wall of the frame, and a shaped tray for containing the products which is adapted to be inserted in the space defined by the base wall and the frame.

[0002] In the field of packaging of individual products, such as confectionery, there is a requirement to provide a container which, as well as fulfilling its function of containing the products, also enables the purchaser to observe the contents of the package directly, the presentation of the product having to be aesthetically sound and attractive.

[0003] The object of the present invention is to provide a type of box which, starting from a known structure of the type specified at the beginning of the description, enables the above requirements to be met fully.

[0004] This is achieved by virtue of the fact that the box also has a tray-like transparent cover having a peripheral wall which is adapted to be inserted between the containing tray and the inner wall of the frame, the cover having on its peripheral wall shaped projections which correspond in shape to the apertures of the frame so as to fix the cover and the tray to the body of the box.

[0005] In this way, even if the box is turned upside-down, the transparent cover and the tray with the products do not come out of the body of the box. In other words, as well as acting as a "window" for the products, the transparent cover also acts as an element for retaining the products and the tray.

[0006] Further advantages and characteristics of the box according to the invention will become clear from the detailed description which follows, provided purely by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the appended drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box according to the invention,

Figure 2 is a section taken on the line II-II of Figure 1,

Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of the box of Figure 1, and

Figure 4 is an exploded perspective view of a second embodiment of the box.

[0007] With reference to the drawings, a box for confectionery products is generally indicated 10 and is provided with a body 12 produced in known manner from a cardboard blank. The body 12 has a base wall 14 and a double-walled peripheral frame 16.

[0008] In correspondence with an inner part 16a of the frame 16, the body 12 has apertures A which are used during the automatic formation of the box by means of special equipment and erecting dies.

[0009] A tray 18 of plastics material, normally produced by thermoforming, is housed in the space between the base wall 14 and the frame 16. The tray 18 has shaped seats 16a for containing, for example, chocolates and the like, and a lateral peripheral wall 18b whose height corresponds substantially to the height of the frame 16.

[0010] A transparent cover 20 of thermoformed plastics material is situated on the tray 18 and is provided with a lateral peripheral wall 20a which is inserted between the peripheral wall 18b of the tray 18 and the inner wall 16a of the frame 16 in the assembled configuration of the box of Figure 1. In order to retain the cover 20 and the tray 18 in the body 12 of the box, shaped projections 22 complementary in shape to the apertures A formed in the inner wall 16a of the frame 16 are formed in the peripheral wall 20a of the cover 20. In this way, after the tray 18 has been inserted in the body 12 of the box and after the products have been inserted in the seats 18a of the tray, the resilient insertion of the projections 22 in the apertures A of the body 12 fixes the assembly of the body, the tray, the products and the transparent cover together.

[0011] According to another embodiment illustrated in Figure 4, in order to fix the cover 20 and the tray 18 independently to the body 12 of the box 10, the tray 18 is provided with shaped projections 24 situated in the peripheral wall 18b and corresponding in shape to the apertures A of the frame 16. In this case, the cover 22 has rectangular notches 26 in opposite walls to enable the insertion of the cover 20 in spite of the presence of the shaped projections 24 of the tray. In this case, the tray 18 remains fixed to the body 12 of the box after the removal of the cover 20.

    Claims

    1. A box, particularly for confectionery products, of the type comprising a cardboard body provided with a flat base wall and a double-walled peripheral frame, apertures used during the automatic forming of the box being disposed in the inner wall of the frame, and a shaped tray for containing the products which is adapted to be inserted in the space defined by the base wall and the frame, characterised in that it also includes a tray-like transparent cover (20) having a peripheral wall (20a) which is adapted to be inserted between the containing tray (18) and the inner wall (16a) of the frame (16), the cover (20) having on its peripheral wall (20a) shaped projections (22) which correspond in shape to the apertures (A) of the frame (16) so as to fix the cover (20) and the tray (18) to the body (12) of the box (10).

    2. A box according to Claim 1, characterised in that the tray (18) for containing the products has a peripheral wall (18b) provided with shaped projections (24) which correspond in shape to the apertures (A) of the frame (16) so as to fix the tray (18) to the body of the box (12) even after the transparent cover (20) has been removed.

    3. A box according to Claim 1, particularly of quadrangular shape, characterised in that the shaped projections (22) of the transparent cover (20) are situated on opposite lateral walls of the cover (20).
