    (54) Rectifier device for AC generator of an automobile

    (57) A rectifier device (2) for a three phase AC generator (1) of an automobile is disclosed, in which the rectifier diodes (201, 202, 203) are of the high speed switching type having a reverse recovery time of not more than 2 seconds. Thus, the commutation surges, which adversely affects the performance of the equipment supplied by the output of the rectifier device (2), are suppressed. The generator (1) may have armature coils (101) in Y-connection and the rectifier device may comprise, in addition to the full-wave rectifier circuit (2) which rectifies the line output voltages of the armature coils in Y-connection, a series circuit of a pair of diodes (201d, 203d) which is coupled across the ouput terminals of the above mentioned full-wave rectifier circuit (2), wherein the neutral point of the Y-connected armature coils is coupled to an intermediate point between the pair of diodes. In such case, only the diodes of the series circuit, or alternatively, only the diodes of the full-wave rectifier circuit, may be of the high speed switching type. The rectifier device (2) may further comprise auxiliary diodes for outputting a voltage to a voltage regulator, which diodes are not high speed switching type.
