A method of using polymeric compositions |
(57) Water-immiscible liquids, for example oil-based drilling fluids, are thickened by
the addition of a viscosifying polymer in the form of an aqueous emulsion of particles
formed by oil-in-water emulsion. The polymeric particles are water-insoluble, and
insoluble but swellable in the water-immiscible liquid. Preferably, the water-immiscible
liquid is the continuous phase of a dispersion of dry polymer particles or aqueous
polymer gel particles.
