    (54) Thermal imaging device

    (57) A pyroelectric film 21 has a pattern of inter-connected electrodes 22 formed on one major surface, and a pattern of discrete electrodes 24 formed on the other major surface. Each discrete electrode 24 has an aperture 31 in which is formed a respective electrically conductive pad 23. The film 21 is supported by pillars 26 connected to the pads 23, the pillars also providing a path for electrical signals between the pads 23 and a signal processing means 28. Each discrete electrode 24 is connected to a respective pad 23 by a respective strip of electrically conductive material.
