(57) A process forming an article comprised of a substrate and an electrically conductive
thin film comprised of a mixture of rare earth alkaline earth oxide crystalline phases
is disclosed. The process comprises applying to a substrate a solution comprising
metal oxide precursors consisting essentially of a solvent and metal-ligand compounds
of each of rare earth, alkaline earth, and copper containing thermally decomposable
ligands and, in the presence of oxygen, heating the precursors to form the crystalline
thin film on the substrate. The rare earth and alkaline earth are applied to the substrate
in an atomic ratio greater than 1.0:2, and the electrically conductive rare earth
alkaline earth copper oxide is heated to a temperature of less than 1050°C to form
a mixture of R₁A₂C₃ and R₂A₁C₁ crystalline phases, where R, A, and C represent rare
earth, alkaline earth, and copper, respectively.
