    (54) Separating components of composite digital video signals


    (57) A composite digital video signal encoder comprises crosstalk measuring filters (26, 28) for measuring crosstalk between luminance and chrominance components of a composite digital video signal, a vertical comb filter (22) and a vertical/temporal filter (24) each operative to separate one of the luminance and chrominance components from the composite signal, a mixer (34) for mixing output signals produced by the vertical and vertical/temporal filters (22, 24), and a mixer control means (44) responsive to the measured crosstalk to control the mixing ratio of the mixer (34) in a sense to reduce cross effects in the mixed output signal resulting from the crosstalk.
