    (57) A platen module which includes a plate (120), structure for supporting the plate for reciprocable movement thereof, a platen member (130) including an inner surface (132) thereof, faced toward and fixedly connected to the plate (120) for movement of the member therewith, and an outer surface thereof, faced away from the plate, is improved by the provision of platen structure which includes the platen member, making the platen member of a resilient material, providing a plurality of channels (144) extending into the platen member from the inner surface thereof, and embedding in the platen member from the outer surface thereof a strip (162) of sub­stantially inflexible material.
