    (57) An image fixing apparatus (20) includes a heater (21) which is fixed during an image fixing operation and which has a heat generating layer (28) in the form of a line; a film (23) movable in sliding contact with the heater (21), wherein a toner image on a recording material is heated by heat from the heater (21) through the film (23); wherein the heater produces amounts of heat which are different in a direction crossing with a movement direction of the recording material (P) in accordance with amount of heat transfer.
