    (54) Miniature circular din connector

    (57) The connector (20) comprises a molded nonconductive housing (22) having a plurality of apertures (40a-h) (Fig. 2) therein for receiving electrically conductive terminals (24). The housing includes an array of channels (46a-h) (Fig. 2) for positively positioning the board contact portions (25) extending from the terminals (24) and preventing lateral movement thereof. An internal shield (26) is mountable in the housing (22) to substantially surround pin-receiving portions of the terminals (24). The housing (22) is lockingly engageable with a base (30), which in turn is mountable to a circuit board. The base (30) includes apertures (62a-h) through which the board contact portions (25) of the terminals (24) may be directed. An external shield (32) is disposed around four sides of the connector. The internal and external shields (26, 32) are not connected to one another, however the external shield includes a contact (57) for directly contacting the shield of a DIN connector plug through a slot (27) in the internal shield (26).
