[0001] The present invention relates to a new foam spray head for aerosol cans which permits
a variation of the delivery rate and furthermore has an aesthetic and hygienic appearance
even in the closed condition.
[0002] Customary foam spray heads for aerosol cans in general have a rectangular or square
cross section which permits the dispensing of the foamed product in the form of a
broad strip. Other spray heads are attached perpendicularly in the form of an open
tube on the spray can (e.g. FR-A 2,598,101). Both embodiments have the disadvantage
that after the foam has been discharged a residue remains in the nozzle, said residue
collapsing and thereby giving the product an unsightly, unhygienic appearance.
[0003] It is the object of the invention to avoid this disadvantage and furthermore to create
a foam spray head which additionally permits the discharge of different quantities
of product, i.e. a variation of the delivery rate.
[0004] The solution of this object consists in the fact that the spray head is designed
as a funnel-shaped fixture, into the opening of which is introduced an insert provided
with transversely extending lamellae, and a rotatable attachment which likewise exhibits
lamellae and is congruent with this insert is fixed over the outer rim of the funnel.
[0005] The mode of operation of this device is exceedingly simple:
in the closed position, the two inserts overlap in such a way that, by virtue of the
parallel lamellae, a leak-proof closure of the opening is ensured: by means of rotation,
the closure can be opened to any desired position and hence the quantity of the aerosol
foam to be delivered determined, up to an opening angle of the lamellae of 90°, square
openings associated with the maximum possible delivery rate then being formed.
[0006] A funnel-like fixture for a foam spray head is already known from DE-A 3,644,237,
but this is used to solve a fundamentally different object and is thus also differently
constructed.
[0007] Figures 1 to 4 provide an illustration of the foam spray head, according to the invention,
for spray cans.
[0008] Figure 1 represents the funnel-shaped foam spray head in the initial state; Figure
2 shows the insert to be introduced into the funnel-shaped foam head, and Figure 3
represents the attachment, which is arranged rotatably on the outside of the foam
spray head and is congruent with the insert.
[0009] Figure 4a shows the foam spray head according to the invention in the closed condition
and Figure 4b shows it in the fully opened condition, as seen from the front.
[0010] In particular, the foam spray head 1 opening into a funnel opening 2 is secured on
a valve disc (not shown) in a conventional manner. In the narrower rim region of the
funnel opening 2 are situated projections 3 on which the insert 5 (in accordance with
Figure 2) fitting into the funnel opening 2 is secured by means of the recesses. The
insert 5 has transversely extending lamellae 6. The attachment 7 illustrated in Figure
3 is secured rotatably on the funnel rim 4 by virtue of gripping the latter and likewise
exhibits transversely extending lamellae 6′ which are arranged congruently with respect
to the lamellae 6 in such a way that, in the closed condition (of Figure 4a), sealing
of the funnel opening 2 occurs. When the attachment 7 is rotated, preferably by means
of the ribbing 8 provided on an outer circumference, the funnel opening 2 is correspondingly
freed, as shown in Figure 4b.
[0011] The valve and hence the discharge of the aerosol foam is actuated by pressing down
the push button 10.
Foam spray head for aerosol cans, the opening of which is in the form of a funnel,
characterized in that an insert (5) provided with lamellae (6) is fitted in the orifice
(2) of the funnel, and a rotatable attachment (7) which likewise exhibits lamellae
(6′) and is congruent with the insert (5) is fixed over the outer rim of the funnel.
