[0001] This patent concerns a tiltable rolling mill stand capable, that is, of assuming
either a position with horizontal axis or a position with vertical axis without having
to shift the base or the motor.
[0002] The proponent is acquainted with solutions of this kind, said solutions are however
extremely complicated in structure and consequently very costly.
[0003] A rolling mill stand which is tiltable by 90° while keeping the rolling axis coinciding
is extremely advantageous in modern rolling processes in that it makes any rolling
line highly flexible.
[0004] A tiltable stand according to the patent is characterized as shown in the main claim.
[0005] The dependent claims show various features.
[0006] The stand, according to the patent, comprises a base shaped in the form of an L,
outside the upper part of the vertical leg of which is disposed the motor.
[0007] Inside the L are guiding and locking means which enable the stand to:
- assume a horizontal position and be locked therein;
- rotate from a horizontal to a vertical position and vice versa, with the assistance
of external means, whenever necessary;
- assume a vertical position and be locked therein.
[0008] The rolling mill stand according to the patent is provided with power take-off means
which are positioned at 90° from each other. The rolling mill stands according to
the patent can either be stands with cantilever rolls or stands with shoulders.
[0009] A non restrictive embodiment is given by way of example, with reference to the accompanying
drawing, in which:
- fig. 1 shows a lateral view of a stand according to the patent with horizontal axis;
- fig. 2 shows the stand of fig. 1 but with vertical axis.
[0010] The stand 10 comprises the rolling unit 25 which is positioned on the base 12 and
made to rotate by the motor 11.
[0011] The motor 11 is provided with a releasable adapter 15 which, depending upon the position
assumed by the rolling unit 25, can be connected to either one of the drive pinions
17-117.
[0012] The base 12 has a horizontal side 14 and a vertical side 13; clamps 20-120, disposed
coordinated with respect to the top, are provided on both of said sides.
[0013] The lifting unit 24 which serves to raise and rotate the rolling unit 25 is provided
in the upper part of the vertical side 13.
[0014] A piston 23 is provided in the lower part of the vertical side 13 to help the rolling
unit 25 to turn over.
[0015] The lifting unit 24 cooperates with lifting chains 26 which are connected to the
base 22 and which serve to lift said base 22.
[0016] The rolling unit 25 is provided with a transmission unit 18 and rolls 19 with a rolling
axis 27.
[0017] The transmission unit 18 comprises power take-off means 16-116 disposed at 90° from
each other; each means 16-116 has its own drive pinions 17-117 which, depending upon
the position of the rolling unit 25, are driven by the releasable adapter 15.
[0018] The rolling unit 25 is mounted on a base 22 which is provided at the front with an
idle wheel 21; the part of the base 22 opposite the idle wheel 21 is connected to
the chains 26.
[0019] The rolling unit 25 can be moved on the base 22 by means of a positioning cylinder
28 which enables the rolling axis 27 to be positioned correctly.
[0020] In order to shift the rolling unit 25 from the position of fig. 1 to the position
of fig. 2, it is sufficient to:
- open the clamps 20 disposed on the horizontal side 14;
- operate the lifting unit 24 so that the base 22 begins to rise while resting on
the horizontal side 14 by means of the idle wheel 21;
- position the rolling axis 27 vertically by means of the cylinder 28 and operate
the clamps 120 in order to secure the rolling unit 25 in the vertical position.
[0021] The cycle is carried out in the reverse order to shift the rolling unit from the
vertical position to the horizontal position with the help, in this case, of the piston
23.
