    (54) Surge arrester with improved weatherseal


    (57) A metal oxide surge arrester (18) and a method of making a metal oxide surge arrester that is sealed and locked together by the bonding of readily accessible flat end surfaces (15a, 16a 19a, 19b) of an elastomeric arrester housing (19) and/or of the arrester element (13) to readily accessible flat surfaces of other components (11, 12,21) of the arrester. The bonding is achieved by applying adhesive between opposing flat surfaces, or to one or other opposing flat surface. All opposing surfaces are then pressed together, while at the same time compressing the elastomeric housing (19).
