(57) A flat for use in a carding machine is intended to be of a disposable nature, and this is achieved by making the flat as an extruded support (1), the card clothing top (2) or other operative element (such as a trash knife) being made integral with the extrusion by being fixed permanently to it. The ends of the extrusion are adapted to receive permanently fixed or detachable end pieces (11) which provide the means for mounting the flat on the carding machine.
