    (54) A ballpoint pen with a decorative effect

    (57) The ballpoint pen includes a hollow body (2) and a clip (4) constituted by an annular element (4a) from which a longitudinal element (4b) extends parallel to and outside the body (2). The pen also includes a sleeve-like element (6) which connects the clip (4) to the body (2) and has a lower portion (8) which is fitted in the top (15) of the body (2), an upper portion (12) which extends within the annular element (4a) of the clip (4), the outer end (16) of the upper portion (12) projecting from the annular element (4a) of the clip (4), and a central portion (10) in the form of an annular projection, the sides of which act as abutment surfaces for the base of the annular element (4a) of the clip (4) and for the top (15) of the body (2), respectively.

    Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a ballpoint pen of the type including: a hollow body and a clip constituted by an annular element from which a longitudinal element extends parallel to and outside the body.

[0002] The object of the present invention is to produce a simple decoration on a ballpoint pen without making it more difficult to assemble.

[0003] The subject of the present invention is a ballpoint pen of the type indicated above, characterized in that it includes a sleeve-like element which connects the clip to the body and has:
a lower portion which is fitted in the top of the body,
an upper portion which extends within the annular element of the clip, the outer end of the upper portion projecting from the annular element of the clip, and
a central portion in the form of an annular projection the sides of which act as abutment surfaces for the base of the annular element of the clip and for the top of the body, respectively.

[0004] An attractive aesthetic effect is thus achieved by virtue of the interpenetration of the various components of the pen.

[0005] In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the connecting element is made in one colour and the body and the clip are of a different colour.

[0006] This creates a decorative pattern with a considerable aesthetic effect constituted by the central portion and the upper end of the upper portion of the connecting element which contrast with the other adjacent parts by virtue of their different colours.

[0007] One advantage of the present invention consists of the fact that the decorative effect of the pen is achieved by making use of its functional components without the need for additional decorative elements which would involve increased costs and manufacturing time.

[0008] Further advantages and characteristics of the present invention will become clear from the detailed description which follows with reference to the appended drawing provided by way of non-limiting example, in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a pen according to the invention,

Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view of some components of the pen of Figure 1, and

Figure 3 is a section taken on the line III-III of Figure 1 with the omission of some parts which are not essential for an understanding of the invention.

[0009] With reference to the drawings, a ballpoint pen comprises a hollow body 2, a clip 4 constituted by an annular element 4a from which a longitudinal element 4b extends parallel to and outside the body 2, and an element 6 which connects the body 2 to the clip 4. A push-button 7 at the top operates the snap-mechanism of a writing tip of known type which is not shown in the drawings for clarity but which is housed in the cavity 9 in the pen.

[0010] The connecting element 6 is shaped like a sleeve and has a lower portion 8, a central portion 10 and an upper portion 12.

[0011] The lower portion 8 has a thread 14 which is screwed into the top 15 of the body 2.

[0012] The upper portion 12 extends within the annular element 4a of the clip 4 which is push-fitted around the base 14 of that portion 12. In the assembled condition, the outer end 16 of the upper portion 12 projects from the annular element 4a.

[0013] The central portion 10 is in the form of an annular projection the sides of which act as abutment surfaces for the base of the annular element 4a of the clip 4 and for the top 15 of the body 2, respectively.

[0014] The connecting element 6 is made in one colour, for example red, whilst the body 2 and the clip 4 are of a different colour, for example white. Once the various parts are assembled, therefore, the central portion 10 and the outer end 16, which are the visible parts of the connecting element 6, contrast with the adjacent parts of the body 2 and of the clip 4, creating a decorative effect.

    Claims

    1. A ballpoint pen including a hollow body (2) and a clip (4) constituted by an annular element (4a) from which a longitudinal element (4b) extends parallel to and outside the body (2), the ballpoint pen being characterized in that it includes a sleeve-like element (6) which connects the clip (4) to the body (2) and has:

a lower portion (8) which is fitted in the top (15) of the body (2),

an upper portion (12) which extends within the annular element (4a) of the clip (4), the outer end (16) of the upper portion (12) projecting from the annular element (4a) of the clip (4), and

a central portion (10) in the form of an annular projection, the sides of which act as abutment surfaces for the base of the annular element (4a) of the clip (4) and for the top (15) of the body (2), respectively.

    2. A ballpoint pen according to Claim 1, characterized in that the connecting element (6) is made in one colour whilst the body (2) and the clip (4) are of a different colour.

    3. A ballpoint pen according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the annular element (4a) of the clip (4) is push-fitted around the base (14) of the upper portion (12) of the connecting element (6).

    4. A ballpoint pen according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the lower portion (8) of the connecting element (6) has a thread (14) which is screwed into the top (15) of the body (2).
