[0001] The present invention refers to a compound section for the formation of frames for
pictures and the like, provided with means for the incorporation of a decorative strip
or section in the form of edging.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Metal sections for the formation of frames for pictures and the like are one-piece,
that is, they comprise a single channeled piece, so that the edge of the picture can
be fitted into the section. The section presents a frontal wing or face, similar to
a moulding, of optional shape, which constitutes the most characteristic ornamental
component. This type of section has no means for incorporation of an additional section
on its front face, so that its configuration is limited to the specific shape presented
by the metal section, with no possibility of varying the shape.
[0003] As is well known, wooden sections for the formation of picture frames present a configuration
which permits the fitting of a complementary moulding or section in the inner contour
of their front face, which permits different frames to be obtained from a single section,
to which are fitted various complementary mouldings or sections.
[0004] In this respect frames formed by metal sections are at a disadvantage compared to
frames formed by wooden mouldings.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0005] In order to avoid the described disadvantage, a compound section has been designed
for the formation of frames for pictures and the like, object of the invention.
[0006] Said section is of the type formed by a channeled metal section, which fits around
the edge of the picture, and is provided with a front face by way of moulding. On
the basis of this known embodiment, the compound section is characterized in that
the front face of the section presents a groove close to its edge, which in turn gives
rise to a ridge adjacent to it, this around the entire contour of the front edge of
the face of the section. It also comprises a second section by way of edging, of channeled
shape and of cross section resembling a "C". This second section fits into the groove
of the metal section and totally covers the ridge and the edge of the front face of
the metal section described at the outset.
[0007] The section by way of edging comprises a thin flat wing which is intended to be juxtaposed
in the back of the front face of the other metal section. Said wing is extended into
a lip of hook-shaped cross section, which covers the edge of the said front face and
fits into its groove.
SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0008] For a better understanding of what has been set forth in the present disclosure,
some drawings are attached which, solely by way of example, show a practical case
of embodiment of the compound section.
[0009] In said drawings, figure 1 is a perspective view of part of the compound section
with its two components shown separated; figure 2 is a view similar to the preceding
figure, but with the two components of the section fitted to each other.
DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0010] The compound section comprises in the drawings a metal section -1- provided with
a channel -1a- for fitting in the edge of a picture frame or the like (not shown).
[0011] As is usual in others of the same type, this section is provided with a wing -2-
by way of moulding, which constitutes the front face of the section. On the obverse
side of this wing -2- there is a groove or depression -3- and, beside it, a ridge
-4- located near the edge of the wing.
[0012] The figures also show in dashed line the back portion -4a- of the section, which
is used for fixing the frame and can adopt different shapes.
[0013] The compound section includes a second section -5-, advantageously of plastic material,
by way of channeled edging, comprising a thin flat wing -6-, from one edge of which
there emerges a lip -7-, with cross section in the form of a hook or "C", intended
to fit into the groove -3-, in such a way that it totally covers the edge and the
ridge -4- of the face -2- of the section -1-, while the wing -6- is juxtaposed on
the back of the face -2- of the section -1-.
[0014] The compound section may take on various embodiments, fitting various complementary
edgings or sections -5- to the section -1-. For this reason, and on the basis of an
initial basic section -1- which constitutes the frame proper, it is possible to achieve
various finishes of said basic section -1- by varying the section or edging -5-, which
can present various colorations or even different sections and measurements.
[0015] As will be apparent, the compound section object of the invention offers an extremely
wide range of embodiments, so that it can be adapted to each specific application
in order to obtain a frame suitable for a specific picture simply by fitting to the
general section -1- an edging or section -5- of the characteristics best suited to
the purpose of the frame.
[0016] Independent of the object of the invention are the materials used in manufacturing
of section components for the formation of frames, its shapes and dimensions and all
accessory details which may be presented, as long as they do not affect its essential
nature.
1. Compound section for the formation of frames for pictures and the like, comprising
a channeled metal section (1) which fits around the edge of the picture, and is provided
with a front face (2) by way of moulding, characterized in that the front face of
the section (1) presents a groove (3) close to its edge, giving rise to a ridge (4)
adjacent said groove (3), around the entire contour of the front edge of the face
(2) of the section, and in that it comprises a second section (5) by way of edging,
of channeled shape and of cross section resembling a "C", which fits in said groove
(3) of the metal section (1), and totally covers the ridge (4) and the edge of the
front face of the metal section (1).
2. Compound section for the formation of frames for pictures and the like, as claimed
in claim 1, characterized in that the section (5) by way of edging comprises a thin
flat wing (6), which is intended to be juxtaposed in the back of the front face (2)
of the metal section (1), which wing is extended into a lip (7) of hook-shaped cross
section, which covers the edge of said front face (2) and fits into its groove (3).
