    (54) Sheet handling apparatus


    (57) s7 A cash dispenser unit (10) includes a plurality of pick mechanisms (12) respectively associated with a plurality of currency cassettes (14). Each pick mechanism (12) is arranged to withdraw part of an end sheet of a stack of notes (18) held in the associated cassette (14) away from the remainder of the stack to position this part for engagement by first (74) and second (78) roll means included in the pick mechanism (12), these roll means (74, 78) serving to remove the end sheet from the cassette (14). A plurality of torque limiting devices (142) are respectively associated with the pick mechanisms (12). In the event of an excessive torque occurring in the drive means of one of the pick mechanisms (12) as a result of a gulp feed in that mechanism (12), the relevant torque limiting device (142) disconnects the drive to that pick mechanism (12) while permitting drive to continue to be applied to the or each other pick mechanism (12).
