Polyvinyl alcohol fiber and process for preparation thereof |
(57) A novel polyvinyl alcohol fiber is provided, which is made of a polyvinyl alcohol
with a polymerization degree ranging from 1,500 to 7,000 and exhibits a tensile strength
of 15 g/d (1.61 GPa) or more, initial elastic modulus of 259 g/d (26.8 GPa) or more,
hot water resistance of 140 °C or higher, and abrasion resistance of 200 or more.
A novel process for the preparation of a polyvinyl alcohol fiber is also provided,
which comprises heat-stretching at a rate ranging from 10 m/min. to 100 m/min. a fiber
made of a polyvinyl alochol having a polymerization degree ranging from 1,500 to 7,000
to which a dehydration reaction-accelerating catalyst is applied.
