    (54) Ink jet recording apparatus und detachably mountable ink jet cartridge


    (57) An ink jet cartridge having a recording head portion (2) and an ink containing portion which are detachably mountable relative to each other, wherein the recording head portion ejects ink to effect recording with the ink includes a first ink container (6), provided in the recording head, for containing the ink; a second ink container (19), provided in the ink containing portion, for containing the ink; ink communication tube (17) for establishing ink communication between the first ink container (6) and the second ink container (19), wherein the ink communication tube (17) is not externally exposed. An ink jet recording apparatus, including a recording head (2) for ejecting ink; an ink container (19) detachably mountable to the recording head and for containing the ink to be supplied to the recording head; detecting device (1380) for detecting mounting of the ink container (19) to the ink jet recording apparatus; control device for controlling recording operation of the ink jet recording apparatus in accordance with an output of the detecting device.
