    (54) Sensor processor for high-speed mail-handling machine

    (57) A sensor processor (52) for co-operating with a drive controller (50) in a high-speed mail-handling machine. The sensor processor (52) accesses periodically a plurality of sensors 56,58,60,62,64, 66,68,70,72 distributed throughout the machine, and then writes the sensor data to an NVM-RAM shared with the drive controller. Time-critical sensors are accessed more frequently than non-time-critical sensors.
