    (54) Methods for processing printed substrates

    (57) Methods for processing substrates (12) printed with an ink layer (14) having a non-planar surface topography, eg curved ink droplets, to produce a composite laminate (10) and the composite laminates produced thereby are disclosed. A printed substrate (12) is laminated to a transparent film (18) using an intermediate adhesive layer (16). During lamination processing, the adhesive layer (16) conforms to the surface topography of the printed ink layer (14), while the conformation of the printed ink layer remains substantially unchanged. The lamination processing methods are especially suitable for processing light transmissive substrates (12), such as transparencies, printed with phase change color inks (14) to produce composite laminates that project clear, color saturated images upon overhead projection.
