    (54) Picture display apparatus


    (57) A picture display apparatus capable of displaying fringed characters is provided with a latch circuit (25) for latching a character code read from a display data RAM (5). The latch circuit (25) is provided between the RAM (5) and a character generator (7) and is used to receive and hold the character code read from the RAM (5) once and to supply the character code thus held to the character generator (7). A write circuit writes the character code to the RAM (5) when the latch circuit (25) is not so timed as to receive the character code from the RAM (5).
