    (57) A composite coating and method of application are provided that comprise flame spraying a layer of thermoplastic onto a substrate and thereafter flame spraying an overlying layer of another, higher melting powder such as metal onto the thermoplastic surface so as to embed unmelted particles of the higher melting powder in the thermoplastic.
