[0001] This invention involves a new prototype shelf incorporating sliding book-ends or
partitions which supports and classifies a wide variety of items: books, documents,
records, plans, albums, magazines, reports, etc.
[0002] The provision of bookcases, shelves, cupboards, etc, with movable, adjustable vertical
supports is designed to avoid the displacement or falling of books (or other objects)
from the horizontal surface (shelf, etc.), on which they are resting. The system makes
classification easier, makes much better use of the available space and avoids contact
between items if so desired. Thus the objective of this patent is the improvement
in the stability of books and other items placed vertically on horizontal supports
and, at the same time, facilitate their location and classification.
[0003] The prototype of this patent comprises a minimum set of three pieces (pieces A and
B), a schematic representation of which is shown in Fig. 1 on a separate page. "A"
is a trapezoidal or bevelled lath which is fixed to the wall horizontally in such
a way that the widest surface faces outwards. The "B" pieces (minimum of two for each
"A" piece) are rectangular and are machined at the posterior edge so as to devetail
on to piece "A". Once piece "A" is fixed, we can introduce new "B" pieces along "A",
thus creating as many spaces or modules as desired for division, classification, etc.
of books or other collectable items without the risk of them falling.
[0004] The situation and space occupied by the invention where books or other items are
to be placed and the size of the pieces will depend on the measurements of the bookcase,
shelves, etc. The invention is totally flexible in respecto to size. Moreover, if
the supports are for books, the moveable support can be of the same size as the books
and can even have the same colouring and general appearance.
[0005] The material used for this invention has to be rigid and can be manufactured in wood,
plastic, methacrylate, steel, reinforced cardboard, etc. or any other material that
has the required rigidity. Similarly, the finish can be lacquered, painted, waxed,
polished, carved, natural, etc. Likewise, the moveable support can take different
forms; apart from rectangular it can be manufactured in rounded shapes, geometric
forms, etc.
[0006] The mobile supports can be used for other purposes. For example, inserting a groove
on the inferior edge of "B" (of the same characteristics as that which already exists
in the posterior part) allows the installation of a second "A" piece, and on fixing
the first "A" piece onto a free wall, we have the possibility of installing a made-to-measure
shelf (Fig.2).
[0007] Making a small vertical support in the form of a wedge and with or without a base,
we obtain a mobile tray (fig.3) for objects which is easy to attach and allows us
to remove one of the objects without the others moving or falling.
[0008] Given that this invention is not specific to any given measurement or material, it
has universal application, for any space and in any situation.
1. The "MOVABLE BOOK SUPPORT" is designed to avoid lateral displacements or falling of
books (or other objects) and to facilitate their selection, classification and positioning.
It consists of a minimum set of three pieces (pieces "A" and "B"). Piece "A" is trapezoidal
(bevelled) and is fixed to the wall horizontally with the widest surface facing out.
Pieces "B" (minimum two pieces for each piece "A") are rectangular and have a groove
in the posterior edge enabling dovetailing to piece "A". Once "A" is fixed, new "B"
pieces can be introduced along "A" thus creating moveable spaces for division, collections,
classification, etc., according to needs and tastes and without risk of displacement
or falls.
2. The support in invention claim 1 can be modified with groove on the inferior edge
of piece "B" (as on the posterior edge), thus permitting the positioning of a second
"A" piece and, fixing the first "A" piece on to wall, we have created the possibility
of installing an independent shelf.
3. The support in invention claims 1 and 2, characterised by a manufactured vertical
support, with or without base, when manufactured in the form of a wedge transforms
to a mobile tray for objects and documents, with easy attachment and which allows
the removal of an object without the others moving or falling.
