Petroleum additive and process for producing alkaline earth metal salt of an aromatic
hydroxy-carboxylic acid |
(57) A petroleum additive containing an alkaline earth metal salt of an aromatic hydroxy-carboxylic
acid, wherein the alkaline earth metal salt is substantially free of an alkali metal
and the ratio of salicylic acid skeleton to total benzene nuclei is 0.4:1 to 0.95:1.
Also, a process for producing an alkaline earth metal salt of an aromatic hydroxy-carboxylic
acid involving: i) reacting an alkaline earth metal salt of a phenol with carbon dioxide;
ii) reacting the resulting free phenol with an alkaline earth metal reagent in the
presence of 2.0 to 15.0 mol of a dihydric alcohol per 1 mol of the alkaline earth
metal reagent (when no water is added) or in the presence of 0.01 to 10.0 mol of water
and 1.5 to 10.0 mol of a dihydric alcohol each per 1 mol of the alkaline earth metal
reagent; and iii) repeating the reaction with carbon dioxide.
