[0001] The present invention relates to a workstation equipment container and more particularly,
but not solely, to a so-called equipment bin for containing data management equipment
such as dealer boards, computer keyboards, telephony boards, telecommunications apparatus
and speakers.
[0002] In modern dealing desks for financial institutions it is desirable to support data
management equipment in a simple manner which will provide operators and dealers with
ease of access.
[0003] An office workstation is known from US 5033804 in which a view screen 11 is mounted
in a viewscreen basket 10 which is pivotally mounted by pivot means in an outer shell
of the workstation. The purpose of the pivotal mounting of the screen is to permit
the screen to be viewed from different positions, for example from a standing position
or a sitting position. This prior arrangement has little relevance to the present
invention.
[0004] According to the present invention there is provided a workstation equipment container
comprising an outer shell adapted to be fixed to a desk or other workstation and an
inner receptacle, which is adapted to support a keyboard, pivotally mounted in the
outer shell by pivot means, characterised in that the pivot means are provided with
friction means whereby the inner receptacle is stationary when the keyboard is used
but the inner receptacle can be pivoted within the shell when subjected to a force
which is substantially greater than the force required to operate the keyboard.
[0005] A constructional embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way
of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:-

present invention;

[0006] With reference to Figure 1, the equipment bin comprises an outer shell having a rear
wall 2, side plates 3 and a front rail 4. The bin further comprises an inner receptacle
having a rear wall 5, side plates 6, a front rail 10 and a faceplate support 7 spot
welded to the front rail 10. Pivot means connecting the receptacle to the outer shell
comprise pivot supports 8, pivot boxes 9 and pivot plates 11. The pivot supports 8
are welded to the inner face of the side plates 3.
[0007] As shown in Figure 2A each side plate 3 has a plurality of holes 3A and rectangular
apertures 3B for receiving projections of the pivot supports. As shown in Figure 5B
each side plate 6 has a plurality of holes 6A, an alignment hole 6B and a plurality
of recesses 6C.
[0008] A spring (not shown) at one or each side of the equipment bin extends between studs
inserted in the holes 3A and 6A. The holes in which the studs are placed and the strength
of the spring or springs depends upon the balance needed which is primarily related
to the weight of the equipment placed in the equipment bin.
[0009] The equipment bin is made of metal parts welded together. When the rear wall 5 is
shaped, creases are formed at each change of angle and the creased metal and/or weld
material fits as and where necessary into the recesses 6C.
[0010] Each pivot support 8 has a pivot hole 8A and wings 8B and 8C. The wings 8B and 8C
have projections 8D and 8E to fit tightly in the apertures 3B of the side plates 3.
Each pivot box has walls 9A on three sides of a baseplate 9B which has a hole 9C.
Each pivot plate 11 has a baseplate 11A and a clinch stud 11B. Each pivot box is arranged
between the inner receptacle and the pivot support 8 with the walls 9A facing inwards.
A pivot plate is arranged within the walls 9A with its clinch stud 11B extending through
the pivot support 8 using hole 8A. A plastic washer is frictionally engaged on the
end of the clinch stud 11B.
[0011] A faceplate 15 has a rectangular aperture 15A to receive data management equipment
such as a computer keyboard. The faceplate is supported by the inner receptacle with
the outer shell providing means for fixing the equipment container to a workstation
such as a dealing desk and affording fixed junction points. The design of the workstation
equipment container is such that it may be fixed to the workstation in a number of
different positions.
[0012] Along the top of the rear wall 5 there is fixed an aluminium extrusion 5A for frictionally
receiving a projecting rail of the faceplate. The aluminium extrusion 5A also acts
as a handle for adjusting the angle of the inner receptacle relative to the outer
shell. The faceplate is provided with quick-release studs fitted using holes 15B for
ease of removal of the faceplate from the inner receptacle.
[0013] The equipment bin cradles the equipment and the pivot joint has a smooth action which
is sufficiently resistant to movement so that equipment buttons and the like can be
operated without the inner receptacle tilting, but whereby the inner receptacle can
be tilted when sufficient pressure is applied.
[0014] A further embodiment of the present invention is shown in Figure 13. As more clearly
shown in Figures 14A and 14B each side plate 3 has two holes 3A and one hole 3B in
which studs 3D are located. As shown in Figures 15A and 15B each side plate 6 has
a hole 6A, a hole 6B and three holes 6C for receiving studs 6D, the hole(s) used depending
on the equipment being installed. Each side plate 6 also has two small holes 6E for
plastic inserts.
[0015] The pivot support 8 as shown in Figures 16A and 16B has a pivot hole 8A, an arcuate
slot 8G and two holes 8H. The holes 8H receive two of the studs 3D extending from
the adjacent side plate 3 and the arcuate slot allows for tilting of the inner receptacle
which has a stud extending from the pivot hole 6A into the arcuate slot.
[0016] Remaining studs in the side plate 3 and 6 are used for locating the ends of balancing
springs as hereinbefore described.
[0017] As shown in Figures 17A, 17B and 17C the rear wall 2 has elongate slots 2A for screws
for fixing the equipment container to a workstation and an earthing stud 2B for earthing
the equipment.
[0018] As shown in Figures 18A and 19A the rear wall 5 has elongate slots 5A for aesthetic
and/or ventilation purposes.
[0019] The equipment bin can be made in various depths and widths depending upon the equipment
to be housed.
1. A workstation equipment container comprising an outer shell which is adapted to be
fixed to a desk or other workstation and an inner receptacle, which is adapted to
support a keyboard, pivotally mounted in the outer shell by pivot means (8, 9, 11),
characterised in that the pivot means are provided with friction means whereby the
inner receptacle is stationary when the keyboard is used but the inner receptacle
can be pivoted within the outer shell when subjected to a force which is substantially
greater than the force required to operate the keyboard.
2. A workstation equipment container according to claim 1, characterised in that the
outer shell has a rear wall (2), side plates (3) and a front rail (4), the upper face
of the shell being substantially open.
3. A workstation equipment container according to claim 2, characterised in that the
inner receptacle comprises a rear wall (5), side plates (6), a front rail (10) and
a faceplate support (7) secured to the front rail (10).
4. A workstation equipment container according to claim 3, characterised in that the
pivot means comprise a pair of pivot supports (8) each of which is secured to a respective
side plate (3) of the outer shell, a pair of pivot boxes (9) and a pair of pivot plates
(11).
5. A workstation equipment container according to claim 4, characterised in that each
side plate (3) of the outer shell is provided with at least one hole (3A) and with
a number of rectangular apertures (3B) which are adapted to receive projections (8D,
8E) on the pivot supports (8) and in that each side plate (6) of the inner receptacle
is provided with at least one hole (6A), an alignment hole (6B) and a plurality of
recesses (6C).
6. A workstation equipment container according to claim 5, characterised in that a respective
stud is fitted into each of the or a respective one of the holes (3A, 6A) in the side
plates (3, 6) of the outer shell and inner receptacle and a respective spring extends
between said studs on each of the sides of the receptacle and shell.
7. A workstation equipment container according to claim 5 or claim 6, characterised in
that each pivot plate is secured to a respective one of the side plates (6) of the
inner receptacle and is provided with a stud (11B) which is engageable in a pivot
hole (8A) in the associated pivot support (8), each pivot box (9) being located between
a respective pivot support and the associated side plate of the inner receptacle.
8. A workstation equipment container according to claim 7, characterised in that each
stud (11B) is frictionally engaged by a plastic washer to create friction between
the pivot plates (11A) and the pivot supports (8).
9. A workstation equipment container according to any preceding claim, characterised
in that the inner receptacle is provided with a face plate (15) having a rectangular
aperture (15A) for receiving data management equipment, the inner receptacle having
a strip (5A) for engaging and supporting a rail on the face plate and said strip (5A)
preferably acting as a handle for adjusting the angle of the inner receptacle relative
to the outer shell.
10. A workstation equipment container according to any preceding claim, characterised
in that the inner receptacle has a rear wall (5) which is provided with a series of
elongate apertures or slots (5A).

innere Aufnahme, die ausgelegt ist, eine Tastatur zu halten, und die mittels einer
Dreheinrichtung (8, 9, 11) an dem Außengehäuse drehbar angeordnet ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß die Dreheinrichtung mit einer Reibeinrichtung versehen ist, wodurch die innere
Aufnahme ortsfest bleibt, wenn die Tastatur benutzt wird, jedoch die innere Aufnahme
innerhalb des Außengehäuses gedreht werden kann, wenn eine Kraft aufgebracht ist,
die im wesentlichen größer als die Kraft ist, die notwendig ist, um die Tastatur zu
bedienen.
2. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
das Außengehäuse eine hintere Wand (2), Seitenplatten (3) und eine Fronttraverse (4)
aufweist, wobei die obere Seitenfläche des Gehäuses im wesentlichen offen ist.
3. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
die innere Aufnahme eine hintere Wand (5), Seitenplatten (6), eine Fronttraverse (10)
und einen Stirnplattenhalter (7) aufweist, der an der Fronttraverse (10) gesichert
ist.
4. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach Anspruch 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
die Dreheinrichtung ein Paar Drehhalter (8), von denen jeder mit einer jeweiligen
Seitenplatte (3) des Außengehäuses befestigt ist, ein Paar Drehkästen (9) und ein
Paar Drehplatten (11) aufweist.
5. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
jede Seitenplatte (3) des Außengehäuses mit wenigstens einem Loch (3A) und einer Anzahl
von rechteckigen Öffnungen (3B) versehen ist, die angepaßt sind, um Vorsprünge (8D,
8E) an den Drehhaltern (8) aufzunehmen, und daß jede Seitenplatte (6) der inneren
Aufnahme mit wenigstens einem Loch (6A), einem Ausrichtloch (6B) und einer Vielzahl
von Aussparungen (6C) versehen ist.
6. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
ein jeweiliger Zapfen in jedes oder in ein jeweiliges Loch (3A, 6A) in den Seitenplatten
(3, 6) des Außengehäuses und des Innenbehälters eingesetzt ist sowie sich eine entsprechende
Feder zwischen den Zapfen an jeder Seite des Behälters und des Gehäuses erstreckt.
7. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach Anspruch 5 oder 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß jede Drehplatte mit einer entsprechenden Seitenplatte (6) der inneren Aufnahme
verbunden ist und mit einem Zapfen (11B) versehen ist, der mit einem Drehloch (8A)
in dem zugehörigen Drehhalter (8) in Eingriff ist, wobei jeder Drehkasten (9) zwischen
einem entsprechendem Drehhalter und der zugehörigen Seitenplatte des Innenbehälters
plaziert ist.
8. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
jeder Zapfen (11B) aufgrund einer Kunststoffunterleg-Scheibe reibend in Eingriff steht,
um eine Reibung zwischen den Drehplatten (11A) und den Drehhaltern (8) zu erzeugen.
9. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach einem der vorangegangenen Ansprüche, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß die innere Aufnahme mit einer Stirnplatte (15) mit einer rechteckigen
Öffnung (15A) versehen ist, um ein Daten-Management-Gerät aufzunehmen, wobei die innere
Aufnahme einen Streifen (5A) umfaßt, um mit einer Traverse an der Stirnplatte in Eingriff
zu kommen und diese zu halten, und der Streifen (5A) vorzugsweise als ein Griff fungiert,
um den Winkel der inneren Aufnahme bezüglich des Außengehäuses einzustellen.
10. Gerätebehälter für einen Arbeitsplatz nach einem der vorangegangenen Ansprüche, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß die innere Aufnahme eine hintere Wand (5) aufweist, die mit einer
Reihe von Längsöffnungen oder Schlitzen (5A) versehen ist.

qui est conçue pour être fixée à un bureau ou autre poste de travail et un réceptacle
intérieur, qui est conçu pour supporter un clavier, monté de façon pivotante dans
l'enveloppe extérieure grâce à un moyen pivotant (8, 9, 11), caractérisé en ce que
le moyen pivotant est muni d'un moyen de frottement grâce à quoi le réceptacle intérieur
est fixe lorsque le clavier est utilisé mais le réceptacle intérieur peut être amené
à pivoter à l'intérieur de l'enveloppe extérieure lorsqu'il est soumis à une force
qui est sensiblement supérieure à la force nécessaire pour mettre en oeuvre le clavier.
2. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon la revendication 1, caractérisé
en ce que l'enveloppe extérieure comporte une paroi arrière (2), des plaques latérales
(3) et un rail avant (4), la face supérieure de l'enveloppe étant pratiquement ouverte.
3. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon la revendication 2, caractérisé
en ce que le réceptacle intérieur comprend une paroi arrière (5), des plaques latérales
(6), un rail avant (10) et un support de plaque de montage (7) fixé au rail avant
(10).
4. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon la revendication 3, caractérisé
en ce que le moyen pivotant comprend une paire de supports pivotants (8) dont chacun
est fixé à une plaque latérale respective (3) de l'enveloppe extérieure, une paire
de boîtiers pivotants (9) et une paire de plaques pivotantes (11).
5. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon la revendication 4, caractérisé
en ce que chaque plaque latérale (3) de l'enveloppe extérieure est munie d'au moins
un trou (3A) et d'un certain nombre d'ouvertures rectangulaires (3B) qui sont conçues
pour recevoir des saillies (8D, 8E) sur les supports pivotants (8) et en ce que chaque
plaque latérale (6) du réceptacle intérieur est munie d'au moins un trou (6A), un
trou d'alignement (6B) et une pluralité d'évidements (6C).
6. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon la revendication 5, caractérisé
en ce qu'un tenon respectif est adapté dans chacun des trous ou dans un trou respectif
parmi les trous (3A, 6A) des plaques latérales (3, 6) de l'enveloppe extérieure et
du réceptacle intérieur, et un ressort respectif s'étend entre lesdits tenons sur
chacun des côtés du réceptacle et de l'enveloppe.
7. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon la revendication 5 ou la revendication
6, caractérisé en ce que chaque plaque pivotante est fixée à une plaque respective
parmi les plaques latérales (6) du réceptacle intérieur et est munie d'un tenon (11B)
qui peut être engagé dans un trou de pivot (8A) dans le support pivotant associé (8),
chaque boîtier pivotant (9) étant placé entre un support pivotant respectif et la
plaque latérale associée du réceptacle intérieur.
8. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon la revendication 7, caractérisé
en ce que chaque tenon (11B) est saisi de façon frottante par une rondelle de matière
plastique afin de créer un frottement entre les plaques pivotantes (11A) et les supports
pivotants (8).
9. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon l'une quelconque des revendications
précédentes, caractérisé en ce que le réceptacle intérieur est muni d'une plaque de
montage (15) comportant une ouverture rectangulaire (15A) destinée à recevoir un équipement
de gestion de données, le réceptacle intérieur comportant une bande (5A) destinée
à saisir et supporter un rail sur la plaque de montage et ladite bande (5A) servant
de préférence de poignée pour le réglage de l'inclinaison du réceptacle intérieur
par rapport à l'enveloppe extérieure.
10. Conteneur pour équipement de poste de travail selon l'une quelconque des revendications
précédentes, caractérisé en ce que le réceptacle intérieur comporte une paroi arrière
(5) qui est munie d'une série d'ouvertures ou fentes allongées (5A).
