Metal forming lubricant |
(57) A lubricant for use in metal forming processes such as the stamping and cutting of
sheet aluminum. The lubricant is a mixture of mineral spirits and one or more compounds
selected from the group consisting of polyisobutenes having molecular weights of from
320 to 460 and alkylene glycols having one terminal hydroxyl group and a viscosity
in the range of from 65 to 1715 Saybolt Universal Seconds (S.U.S.) at 100° C groups.
These compounds have excellent lubricating properties and are easily miscible in mineral
spirits. The lubricant may contain up to 80 percent by weight of the selected compounds.
In a preferred embodiment, the proportions in the lubricant mixture are 70 percent
by weight of mineral spirits, 20 percent by weight of the selected compound or compounds
and 10 percent by weight of other additives.
