(54) Electrical harness having an electrical connector with an electrical component therein and a method of making same


(57) A harness assembly (1) for an airbag system comprising a cable (16) and an electrical connector (2) for connecting conductors (18) of the cable (16) to terminals of a device where the connector (2) comprises: a housing (4); an electrical component (32) located within the housing (4) and having conductive members (34a,34b) thereupon for electrical connection therewith; a first electrical interconnection (86) for electrically connecting one of the conductors (18) to one of the conductive members (34a); a second electrical interconnection (88) for electrically connecting another one of the conductors (18) to one of the terminals; a third electrical interconnection for electrically connecting one of the other conductive members (34b) to one of the other terminals; a cover (8) for enclosing the interconnections (86,88) and the electrical component (32) within the housing (4); and, a strain relief (10)for isolating external forces exerted on the cable (16) from the interconnections (86,88). An overmoulded portion (12) seals the cover (8) and the housing (4) together and a strain relief tail (12) extends therefrom along the cable (16).
