The in-line oscillating mechanism preferably is adapted and configured to move a sanding pad in a linear oscillating motion. The sanding pad preferably is coupled to the in-line oscillating mechanism. The sanding pad may be a corner or detail pad, a shutter pad, or a multiplicity of non-linear profiled pads upon which sanding paper is mounted.
