(54) Electrical connector having gel sealing and post insertion conductor engagement

(57) An electrical connector (2) comprising a terminal block (4) having conductor receiving passageways (18) therein that extend from a rear face (22) to a mating face (14) of the block (4), where a contact (10) having an conductor engaging section (54) for engaging an insulated wire (66) to be terminated thereto is disposed in the passageway (18); a gel-like seal (6) is disposed towards the rear face (22) such that the wire (66) to be terminated to the contact (10) must pass therethrough to be received within the conductor engaging section (54) and, a displacement member (38) for terminating the wire (66) in the conductor engaging section (54) after the wire (66) passes through the seal (6), thereby assuring the residue of the seal does not contaminate the interconnection of the contact to the mating terminal (not shown) or to the conductive lead (70) within the wire (66) as any residue would be disposed upon the coating (68).
