(57) A heat exchanger is provided comprising a coiled duct (1) having fins (5) integrally
formed with the duct. A first fluid, typically a refrigerant fluid is passed through
the interior (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) of the duct, and a second fluid, typically a sterilant
gas to be dried is passed over the exterior of the duct, over the fins. A method of
forming the coiled heat exchanger from a straight section of duct, formed as an extrusion
with integral fins, without flattening the fins is disclosed. The invention can provide
a compact efficient heat exchanger which is readily manufactured.
