(57) Compacted powder pastilles (8,11), particularly for cosmetic use, having a non flat bearing base, an arched, rhomboid-arched, waived shape and the like, suitable to be applied on non flat bearing bases, for instance cylindrical or flower-shaped bases and the like, so as to realize cosmetic packages (9,12) having a particular form and aesthetic qualities.
Process for the realization of said compacted pastilles (8,11).

Description

[0001] The invention relates to compacted pastilles for cosmetic use, obtained by compaction of powders and comprising a bearing base and the compacted material, having a particular shape and suitable for the realization of original packages easily usable and attractive for the public.

[0002] The invention relates also to the process for the realization of said compacted pastilles having a particular shape.

[0003] As is known, powder cosmetics such as face powders, eyeshadows, fards, earthes, etc., are presented to users in compact form, more particularly in form of compacted pastilles, which are formed by a flat bearing base provided with edges, within which the compacted cosmetic material shaped as a pastille, a tablet or the like is contained. The compacted pastilles are then packaged by placing and fixing them, for instance by glueing, on the bottom of boxes, cases and the like.

[0004] In this way, the users can take the quantity of cosmetic product they need, usually by rubbing it away from the surface of the pastilles as they use it.

[0005] It is also known that compacted pastilles are obtained by placing the empty bases, realized from tinplate, aluminium or the like, in the special cavities of a drilled or grooved plate; the bottom of such cavities is formed by the top of projections obtained on an underlying male plate obtained in correspondence of the individual cavities of the grooved plate, and vertically translable relatively to the latter through the action of a piston or the like.

[0006] Once the empty bases have been placed in the respective cavities, the cosmetic powder to be compacted is poured from a special hopper translable on the grooved plate and so distributed as to cause the uniform filling of all the cavities up to their edges: to do this, a scraper or the like is caused to pass on the surface of the grooved plate, which scraper provides to the removal of the excess of the powder to be compacted. An upper plate or dolly is then lowered on the grooved plate, which dolly closes in this way the cavities filled with powder, and thereafter a piston causes the upwards translation of the male plate, so that the powder filling the individual cavities is compressed and compacted in the respective bases against the upper plate. Lastly, the upper plate is lifted and, making the male plate to translate further upwardly, the compacted pastilles are pushed out of the respective cavities, collected and conveyed to the packaging station.

[0007] By adjusting the starting position of the male plate relatively to the position of the grooved plate, it is possible to change the volume of the cavities and therefore the quantity of cosmetic product that is compacted and/or the thickness and/or the consistency of the compacted pastille.

[0008] The bearing base of the compacted pastilles available at present according to the known art and obtained according to known processes is usually flat or at least partly flat. As a consequence, such pastilles can be utilized to realize only packagings such as boxes, cases and the like provided with a flat bearing base or a flat supporting plate, and anyway a base suitable to house and stably restrain, usually by glueing, fitting in and the like, elements provided with a substantially flat base, such as the present pastilles.

[0009] Also compacted pastilles are known that have a convex surface and that are provided with a concavity in their bearing base. These pastilles are obtained by suitably shaping the dolly, for instance providing concavities in the same in correspondence of the individual cavities and by shaping correspondingly the projections realized on the male plate, so that during the compaction stage the base is drawn correspondingly to the convexity and the compaction pressure on the material - and therefore the characteristics of the obtained pastilles -is uniform. However, such compacted pastilles have always the drawback that the convexity of the base due to the drawing is a severe hindrance to the taking of the last parts of the product and therefore to the easy and complete use of the same. Besides, the bearing base of these compacted pastilles lies in any case on a plane and therefore they can be used only for traditional packages according to the kown art, and more precisely packages provided with a flat base or anyway provided with a flat bearing surface.

[0010] Object of this invention is to realize and provide compacted pastilles comprising a base and compacted powder, suitable to adhere to and to be stably restrained on bearing surfaces having various non flat shapes, even irregular shapes, allowing in this way the realization of packages having different forms particularly convenient and functional for the purpose of the taking and the utilization of the product.

[0011] Another object of this invention is the realization of compacted pastilles suitable to be used for the realization of packages of various and original forms, aestetically pleasant and such as to exert a particular appeal and attraction on the public.

[0012] A further object of this invention is the realization of a process for the production of compacted pastilles of various shapes and profiles, suitable to be stably fixed and restrained on various non flat surfaces and even on irregular surfaces.

[0013] These and still further objects and related advantages which will be made more apparent by the follwing description are achieved by compacted powder pastilles particularly for cosmetic use, comprising a base and at least a layer of compacted material, which pastilles, according to this invention, are provided with a bearing base, formed essentially by said base, said base being non flat and suitable to be stably restrained by restraining means commonly used, such as glueing, fitting in or the like, on non flat bearing surfaces, so as to allow the realization of packages of various forms and particularly convenient and functional for the purpose of the taking of the product by users, and also aesthetically original and attractive.

[0014] More particularly, said bearing base is arched or rhomboid-arched or waved, or leaf- or petal- or shell-shaped or the like.

[0015] For instance, with circle-arched compacted pastilles it is possible to realize a package wherein the pastilles cover the cylindrical surface of a cylindrical, possibly rotating, support, exposing in this way to users a wide surface of product contained in a small space.

[0016] With rhomboid-arched compacted pastilles it is possible to realize, according to this invention, a package wherein the pastilles cover diagonally or spiral-like the cylindrical surface of the support.

[0017] Of course, the cylindrical surface of the package formed by the surface of the compacted pastilles can be protected by cylindrical small doors or a bell-like envelope or the like.

[0018] With leaf- or petal-shaped compacted pastilles it is possible to realize, always according to this invention, flower- or floreal composition-shaped packages.

[0019] Placing on the suitable shaped support pastilles of different colours and according to a suitable sequence, it is possible to obtain special aesthetic qualities and effects, and to realize in this way packages particularly appealing and attractive for the public.

[0020] It is even possible to obtain a same pastille realized with different colours, so as to allow users to take the product in the widest range of shades and/or compositions that fit best their needs, besides reaching an even more marked aesthetically attractive effect.

[0021] The invention will now be described with special reference to the drawings, provided only by way of non limitative example of the invention, wherein

Fig. 1 shows schematically and in section a device for the realization of compacted pastilles according to the known art,

Figs. 2 and 3 show the side view of two different embodiments of compacted pastilles according to the invention, while

Figs. 4 and 5 show schematically two different embodiments of packages obtained by utilizing the pastilles of Figs. 2 and 3 respectively.

[0022] With reference to Fig. 1, bases 1, 1a, etc. are positioned within the cavities provided in the female grooved plate 2 resting on top of projections 3, 3a, etc. obtained on the male plate 4. Powder 5 to be compacted is placed in the various cavities, on the respective bases. The cavities are then closed by lowering the upper plate or dolly 6, and then the male plate 4 is pushed upwards by the cylinder or piston 7, so that powder 5 is compressed against dolly 6 and compacted and anchored within base 1. Having then removed dolly 6, the male plate 4 is caused to furtherly translate upwards until it expels the compacted pastilles so formed.

[0023] Fig. 2 shows a compacted pastille 8 according to this invention, having an arched bearing base. With this pastille it is possible to realize for instance the cylindrical package 9, schematically shown in Fig. 4, comprising a plurality of pastilles 8 sequentially glued on the surface of cylinder 10 which is entirely covered by the same.

[0024] Fig. 3 shows a different embodiment of the pastille according to this invention, formed by a pastille 11 having a rhomboid-arched bearing base. With such pastille it is possible to realize for instance the cylindrical package 12 schematically shown in Fig. 5, comprising a plurality of pastilles 11 sequentially spiral-like glued on the surface of cylinder 13.

[0025] In the same way, with differently arched pastilles it is possible to realize packages having a spherical or ogival form, or flower- or fruit-shaped or the like.

[0026] Obviously, to realize the pastilles according to this invention which, as said, utilizes usually preformed arched bases variously shaped, it is not possible to adopt the technique of filling up to the edge with the powder to be compacted the cavities wherein the bases are placed, removing then the excess powder from the surface of the grooved plate by means of a scraper: this would unavoidably lead to different thicknesses of the powder in the various parts of the cavity according to the bending degree of the underlaying base, and therefore to compacted pastilles wherein the compacted material would have different densities and hence different consistencies in the different parts of a same pastille. Therefore, a further object of this invention is to provide a process for the production of compacted pastilles having variously arched or shaped bearing bases.

[0027] These and still further objects and related advantages which shall be apparent from the following description are reached by a process for the production of compacted powder pastilles, particularly for cosmetic use, provided with a non flat and variously arched and/or shaped bearing base suitable to be stably restrained on non flat bearing bases, which process, according to this invention, comprises the step of intimately mixing the powder to be compacted with a suitable bonding agent, and of distributing afterwards on the surface of a suitably arched and/or shaped base an equal and constant quantity of said powder per surface unit, independently on the bending degree and therefore on the inclination that the suface of said base has locally.

[0028] In fact, it has been observed that the bonding agent lends the powder to be compacted a remarkable consistency and sliding strength and that the boundary friction angle is such as to allow the powder to draw up and to remain even on the parts of the base that are more inclined relatively to the horizontal line. This makes it possible to compact afterwards uniformely the powder by utilizing a mould and a dolly suitably shaped according to the development of the pastille surface.

[0029] The uniform distribution of the powder in the base may be realized in different ways by using feeding/dosing devices of a known type.

[0030] As bonding agents are preferably used various waxes and/or oils and/or esters; such agents, in the particular case of cosmetic powders, are of common use and are also usually already included in the mixes used for the production of cosmetics having the form of compacted pastilles.
