(57) A linear motor door system (100) for elevator car doors (120,140) includes first and second doors movable horizontally toward or away from one another, and a linear motor attached to the doors. The primary (150) of the linear motor is fixed to and movable with the first door (140) and the secondary (160) of the linear motor is fixed to and movable with the second door (120).
