(57) A microwave oven (100) has a steam generator (50) which feeds steam into a cooking
chamber (10) to prevent food becoming dried out during cooking. The steam generator
(50) includes a tank (70) that includes first and second electrodes (90,91) connected
to an ac supply. The tank is filled an aqueous solution of a salt such as sodium chloride,
which is electrically conductive. The electrical resistance of the solution results
in heating thereby generating the steam.
