[0001] The present invention relates to a cardboard package with fastener strips and anchor
plates for articles of various kinds, particularly for gardening articles.
[0002] Gardening articles, particularly fittings of various types, terminals for the delivery
of water and so on, are traditionally packaged for display in blister-type packages,
formed by a flat piece of cardboard provided with a slot for connection to a display
unit and by a cover of transparent plastic, that holds the packaged item against the
cardboard, while at the same time allowing it to remain in full view for observation
on the part of the interested purchaser.
[0003] For this type of package serious problems have recently arisen, especially in some
countries, that penalise it against other possible packing materials.
[0004] A first problem is represented by the fact that in some countries there is a tax
on packing materials, that is based on the weight of the package (and so is higher
for plastic than for cardboard) and that the consumer has the right not to pay for
leaving the package at the cashier's desk, in separate containers according to the
material used. This penalises very seriously mixed packages such as the one described
above of plastic and cardboard, because the glue that holds the two materials together
in fact prevents the separation of the same.
[0005] A second problem is represented by the ecological orientation of public opinion,
that is against the use of plastic and that is often supported by special legislation
on the collection and recycling of packing materials.
[0006] On the other hand the need remains unchanged of packaging the article so as to allow
on one side its connection to a display unit and on the other its observation on the
part of the customer.
[0007] Nor can it still be considered current to tie the product to the cardboard with a
plastic cord passing through the cardboard and tied up onto itself. Actually this
system invokes a considerable manual ability with a result that is also aesthetically
unacceptable.
[0008] An innovative solution to the problem is represented by the package described in
the Italian utility patent application No. MI95U000795 filed on 20 November 1995 in
the name of the same Applicant. It provides for a flat sheet of cardboard to act as
a supporting wall for the article and that one or more fastener strips of synthetic
material be placed across the article and attached to said sheet of cardboard at their
triangular ends to hold said article against the sheet itself.
[0009] This package has the merit of being almost entirely of one material only with a low
specific weight (cardboard), that makes the package tax very low and on the other
hand permits it to be avoided without any problems by leaving at the cashier's desk
the package (cardboard plus small fastener strips of synthetic material) after extracting
the packaged article(s). In addition, it is ecologically appreciable given the well-known
favour that cardboard meets in respect to other materials.
[0010] But the softness of the cardboard can involve the detachment of the article's fastener
strips with the consequent fall out of the article itself.
[0011] In view of all this, the object of the present invention has been that of providing
a package for articles of different kinds, particularly but not exclusively for gardening
articles, that take up again the basis of the abovementioned application of the Applicant,
but eliminating the drawback mentioned above.
[0012] According to the present invention such object has been attained with a package comprising
a flat sheet of cardboard acting as a supporting wall for the article and at least
one fastener strip of synthetic material placed across the article and with triangular
ends connected to a rear face of said sheet of cardboard for holding said article
against a front face of the sheet itself, characterized in that it also comprises,
for each fastener strip, a respective plate of synthetic material placed so as to
connect the ends of the fastener strip between the ends themselves and the rear face
of the sheet of cardboard.
[0013] This package maintains all the advantages of the already mentioned prior utility
patent application, while also adding, thanks to the plates for connecting the ends
of the fastener strips, a safer and substantially unalterable connection of the article
to the supporting cardboard.
[0014] The features of the present invention will be made more evident by the following
detailed description of an embodiment thereof illustrated in the enclosed drawings,
wherein:
Fig. 1 shows a front view of a package according to the invention, used, for example,
for packaging a garden shower terminal;
Fig. 2 shows the same package seen from the rear;
Fig. 3 shows said package in a cross-section taken along the line III-III of Fig.
1.
[0015] With reference to Figs. 1 and 2, a package according to the present invention, used
for a gardening article consisting of a shower terminal 1 and of an extension 2, comprises
a sheet of cardboard 3, that acts as a lateral supporting wall for the two parts of
the article. The abovementioned sheet of cardboard is provided with a slot 4 for connecting
to a display unit and with a window 5 for positioning the terminal 1.
[0016] As also shown in Fig. 3, in order to fasten the two parts of the article on a front
face 6 of the sheet of cardboard 3 there are two fastener strips 7 in plastic material,
that are placed across the respective parts 1 and 2 of the article itself and have
triangular ends 8 made to pass through suitable holes 9 of the sheet of cardboard
3 for the connection of the fastener strips to the rear face 10 of the sheet itself.
[0017] As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the two ends 8 of each fastener strip 7 are connected together
by a respective plate 11 in plastic material interposed between the same ends 8 and
the rear face 10 of the sheet of cardboard.
[0018] The connection of the ends of the fastener strips 7 to the respective plates 11 is
advantageously made by machine so as to obtain a tighter and safer tightening of the
fastener strips themselves and thus of the packaged article.
1. A package for articles of various kinds, particularly for gardening articles, comprising
a flat sheet of cardboard (3) acting as a supporting wall for the article and at least
one fastener strip (7) of synthetic material placed across the article and with triangular
ends (8) connected to a rear face (10) of said sheet of cardboard (3) for holding
said article against a front face (6) of the sheet itself characterized in that it
also comprises, for each fastener strip (7), a respective plate (11) of synthetic
material placed so as to connect the ends (6) of the fastener strip between the ends
themselves and the rear face (10) of the sheet of cardboard.
2. A package according to claim 1, characterized in that said sheet of cardboard (3)
has a slot (4) for connecting it to a display unit.
3. A package according to claim 1, characterized in that said sheet of cardboard (3)
has a window (5) for a garden shower terminal.
