(54) Decorative plate and method for manufacturing same

(57) A decorating material for buildings made of wood or plastics or paper. The decoration is obtained by placing a patterned material on the base part of the decorating material covered with venier, fabrics or plastics. The combined material is then pressed and then a thin layer is scraped off so as to reveal the covered pattern.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a novel decorating and building means and a method for producing same.

[0002] Builders and architects need and use all kinds of building and decorating plates, panels, tiles and the like made of a variety of materials. Such materials being used for flooring or wall covering or other uses. The material is provided in the form of tiles, plates and/or panels.

[0003] The invention relates to such material, mainly but not exclusively, made of wood or similar material.

[0004] The appearance of the tiles or panels is subject to the material it is made of.

[0005] Wooden tiles or panels have the known wooden structure appearance depending on the wood it is made of.

[0006] It is the object of the present invention to provide such material having a novel unlimited variety of appearances.

[0007] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a method for manufacturing such material.

[0008] According to the invention there is provided a new building and decorating material which comprises a base part made of wood, plywood, plastics, paper and the like and on said base there is placed a patterned material and covered and glued by a flexible material such as wood, venier wood, fabrics, plastic and the like, the composite material is pressed and then a thin top layer is scraped off to reveal the pattern.

[0009] The method for manufacturing the above tile or panel comprises the steps of:

1. Placing the base material in a horizontal position.

2. Applying glue thereof.

3. Laying or scattering the "patterned" material.

4. Covering the above with the appropriate material.

5. Placing a thick rubber sheet on top of the above.

6. Applying pressure on the rubber by means of a press.

7. Removing the rubber.

8. Scraping the upper surface of the panel to reveal the pattern.

In some instances it is required to apply a second layer of glue after the third step.

[0010] The above method could also be made on both sides of the base material so as to obtain a dual side decorated plate or tile.

[0011] The invention will now be described with reference to the annexed drawings in which:

Fig. 1 illustrates the stages of the method.

Fig. 2 illustrates the stage of an embodiment of the method.

Fig. 3 illustrates a plate or tile in a perspective manner.

Fig. 4 is a cross section of such tile or plate.

Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate the plate of Fig. 3 after it has been treated.

[0012] As can be seen in Fig. 1a on a base plate 1 made of common material such as wood, plastics or the like,a thin layer of glue is applied. On the glue a piece of wood, metal or whatever material 3 is placed - Fig. 1b. On top of the above a thin layer of flexible material 5 is placed - Fig. 1c . A rubber sheet 7 is placed on the above and pressure is applied thereon - Fig. 1d. After the rubber is removed - Fig. 1e the upper surface is scraped within as seen in Figs. 1f or 1g.

[0013] In some instances it is required to apply glue on top of pattern 3 before placing sheet material 5.

[0014] Fig. 2 illustrates the steps of an embodiment of the method described mainly by performing on both sides of base plate 1 with the method described so as to obtain a double sided plate.

[0015] Fig. 3 illustrates in perspective a tile made in accordance with the above method. A cross section is seen in Fig. 4. The upper layer of material 5 could be removed as seen in Fig. 5 or be flattened so as seen in Fig. 6.

[0016] It is within the scope of the invention to manufacture tiles or plates simultaneously in several layers.

[0017] It is also within the scope of the invention to use any kind of material to create unique patterns.

[0018] Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs, those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility of the claims and accordingly, such reference signs do not have any limiting effect on the scope of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
