(57) In a food cooking appliance, the heat source (2), for example a gas burner, microwave generator, electrical resistance element, halogen lamp or the like, is operated at maximum power for a time preset by the user, to then pass automatically to a lower power, again preset by the user, on the basis of user cooking requirements. The system can be implemented with electronic microcontrollers or similar programmed control devices.
