Antislip drumsticks, drumsticks for timpani and brushes for percussion instruments
in general. |
(57) Drumsticks for drums, brushes for percussion instruments, and drumsticks for timpani
which do not slip from the player's hands during execution of pieces of music, characterized
in that the said drumstick:
(i) is wrapped in a sheath which covers it partially, the said sheath being made of
latex or, in any case, a material with a certain degree of adhesiveness to enable
even acrobatic handling of the same, and/or
(ii) the said drumstick is provided with a double metal ring, in which the two rings
are set perpendicular to one another, the first of which slips into the drumstick,
and the second into a finger of the percussionist, in general the middle finger.
[0001] The present invention regards drumsticks, drumsticks for timpani, and brushes for
percussion instruments in general.
[0002] One of the problems that are often encountered during the execution of pieces of
music, in particular jazz and rock music, where percussion instruments, and in particular
drums, play a key role, is that the drumsticks or brushes, which are generally made
of wood, plastic, or even metal, slip out of the percussionist's hands, especially
in the most inopportune moments, for example during execution of virtuoso pieces.
[0003] To overcome this problem, a type of bandage has been known for the said drumsticks
or brushes, whereby they are coated with an adhesive tape which, on the outside, i.e.,
where they come into contact with the percussionist's hands, has a sheet of embossed
plastic.
[0004] This type of material, besides having an impact on the appearance of the drumsticks
or brushes, in so far as, when applied to wooden drumsticks, it does not enable the
wood grain to be seen, is not enough adhesive, to enable acrobatic handling of the
drumsticks or brushes during execution of virtuoso pieces.
[0005] The subject of the present invention is thus a drumstick for drums, timpani and percussion
instruments in general, as well as a brush for drums, which does not slip from the
player's hands during execution of pieces of music, characterized in that:
(i) it is wrapped in a sheath which covers it partially in order to enable a convenient
grip, and the said sheath consists of latex or, in any case, a material with a certain
degree of adhesiveness, and/or
(ii) it is provided with a double metal ring, in which the two rings are set perpendicular
to one another, the first of which slips into the drumstick, and the second into a
finger of the percussionist, in general the middle finger, so as to enable even acrobatic
handling of the drumstick.
[0006] In particular, the drumsticks for percussion instruments according to the present
invention (the said drumsticks being generally 40 cm long) are preferably covered
with the said sheath on the top half of the length of the same (approx. 20 cm).
[0007] The drumsticks made of wood for percussion instruments are preferably covered with
the sheath made of transparent latex in order to render the wood grain visible, i.e.,
without damaging the appearance thereof. The first ring according to the present invention
presents a diameter such that it is preferably slipped in by about two thirds of the
length of the drumstick (starting from the tip), whereas the second ring presents
a diameter such as to stop at the top joint of the middle finger.
[0008] The fastening of the double metal ring to the drumstick is preferably achieved with
a rubber ring, which can be slipped in and out as desired.
1. Drumstick for drums, timpani and percussion instruments in general, as well as a brush
for drums, which does not slip out from the player's hands during execution of pieces
of music, characterized in that:
(i) it is wrapped in a sheath which covers it partially in order to enable a convenient
grip, and the said sheath consists of latex or, in any case, a material with a certain
degree of adhesiveness, and/or
(ii) the said drumstick is provided with a double metal ring, in which the two rings
are set perpendicular to one another, the first of which slips into the drumstick,
and the second into a finger of the percussionist, so as to enable even acrobatic
handling of the drumstick.
2. Drumstick for percussion instruments according to Claim 1, characterized in that it
is covered with the said sheath on the top half of the length of the said drumstick.
3. Drumstick for percussion instruments according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, made of wood
and characterized in that the said sheath is made of transparent latex.
4. Drumstick according to any one of the Claims from 1 to 3, characterized in that the
second ring slips into the middle finger.
5. Drumstick according to any one of the Claims from 1 to 4, characterized in that the
said double metal ring slips into the drumstick by about two thirds of the length
of the drumstick, starting from the tip thereof.
6. Drumstick according to any one of the Claims from 1 to 4, characterized in that fastening
of the said double metal ring to the drumstick is achieved with a rubber ring, which
can be slipped in and out as desired.
