(54) Device for detecting forged banknotes

(57) The present invention relates to a device for detecting forged banknotes, essentially comprising a sensor (2) which is sensitive to infrared rays, an infrared ray filter (3) which is arranged between the banknote (4) to be examined and the sensor, and a display (5) which is connected to the sensor and able to convert the signals received from the sensor (2) into intelligible form. It is also envisaged using an emitter (6) designed to project infrared rays onto the banknote (4). In this way, the sensor receives, via the filter (3), the reflected image of the banknote (4) generated by the infrared rays alone.
