[0001] This invention concerns gunstocks in general and, in particular, gunstocks with an
adjustable part, such as the rack or check-rest against which the marksman places
his cheek.
[0002] Gunstocks are already common with a rack or block, known also as a cheek-rest (as
it will be called from now on in this description), with their adjustable position
and the various devices for regulating it. In these stocks, the cheek-rest consists
of a separate element, attached to the upper part of the stock by means for fixing
and regulating. However, the devices which have been adopted so far have only enabled
the cheek-rest to be regulated in two directions: in height and sideways, to the right
or left of the gunstock.
[0003] Meanwhile, the aim of this invention is to propose a stock with a movable cheek-rest,
easy to position in numerous directions so as to give the maximum effectiveness and
adaptability of the gunstock to the needs of the user.
[0004] Another aim of the invention is to propose a regulating device, which, besides having
an innovatory new structure when compared to the traditional devices in this sector,
enables the cheek-rest to be inclined in a vertical plane above the gunstock.
[0005] These aims have been achieved with a device and a gunstock according to the revendications.
[0006] Further details of the invention will become evident as a result of the description,
made with reference to the enclosed designs, where:
Fig. 1 shows an exploded perspective of the device components;
Fig. 2 shows a perspective of the assembled device;
Fig. 3 shows a side view of the device in Fig. 2;
Figs 4 and 5 show the views from above and below, respectively, of the device in Fig.
2;
Fig. 6 shows a cross-section according to the arrows VI-VI in Fig. 4;
Fig. 7 shows a section according to the arrows VII-VII in Fig. 3; and
Fig. 8 shows a section according to the arrows VIII-VIII also in Fig. 3.
[0007] The gunstock to which the device in question is applied consists of a principal part
11 and an element applied to it, called cheek-rest 12, which are represented in outline
in Fig. 6.
[0008] The cheek-rest 12 is placed on the upper part of the body 11 and has the possibility
of being moved and positioned in various directions.
[0009] According to the version shown in the designs, the device consists of a first plate
13, to be fixed by screws to the base of the cheek-rest 12, a second plate 14, to
be fixed by screws to the upper part of the body 11 of the stock, set in a groove
11', and two parallel props 15 for regulating, placed between the two plates 13, 14.
These props 15 have a prismatic shape, and are each penetrated vertically by a hole
16 and are joined together by a cross-piece 15'.
[0010] In greater detail, the first plate 13 has two slotted holes cut in the bottom of
two parallel grooves 18 that have been made in the upper face of the plate itself,
aligned at right angles to this and the cheek-rest 12 to which it is fixed.
[0011] The two props 15 are anchored to the first plate 13 by means of two stop screws 19
which pass from the base of the vertical holes 16 in the props, through the slot holes
17 and screw into nuts 20, which are held in the grooves, where they can move sideways
but not turn.
[0012] The second plate 14 has a cavity which forms two prismatic guide slots 21, which
are parallel to one another and shaped so as to receive the two props 15 anchored
to the first plate 13.
[0013] The props rest in their respective slots 21, with a pre-established play and the
possibility of adjusting their height and being angled away from the vertical, thereby
modifying the parallelism or angle between the two plates 13 and 14, and, therefore,
between the cheek-rest and the gunstock.
[0014] The props 15 can be blocked in their slots 21 in any position whatever by means of
dowel screws 22 which are screwed into one side of the second plate 14 and can be
reached with a spanner through corresponding holes made in the stock. The dowel screws
22 can be tightened directly against the side of the props, but, in order to avoid
wear of the prop surfaces, it is preferable that they block the props through an interposed
plate 23 - Figs 1 and 7. This small plate is held in the cavity of the second plate
by a screw 24, for example, and allows the blocking force to be distributed over a
wider surface area of the props, than if the dowel screws were tightened directly
against the props themselves.
[0015] In practice, once the screws 19 have been loosened, the slotted holes 17 allow the
cheek-rest to move sideways, both to left and to right, with respect to the gunstock.
Furthermore, once the dowel screws 22 have been loosened, the props 15 allow the height
of the cheek-rest above the gunstock to be varied at will, as well as allowing the
cheek-rest to be angled backward and forward as required, thanks to the shape of the
props and their being fixed with enough play in their respective slots in the second
plate.
[0016] Scales which are mounted on several parts of the device indicate visually the sideways
positioning, the height and the angle of the cheek-rest above the gunstock.
[0017] One final observation about the device which has been described and illustrated is
that it can also be used the other way round, that is, fixing the first plate to the
gunstock and the second plate to the cheek-rest, without affecting the nature of the
invention.
1. Device for regulating the position of a cheek-rest for the gunstock, where the cheek-rest
(12) consists of a movable element applied to the upper part of the body (11) of the
stock, composed of a first plate (13) which is to be fastened to the cheek-rest or
stock body, a second plate (14) to be fixed to the stock body or cheek-rest, and two
regulating props (15) placed between the first and second plate (13, 14), characterised by the fact that said props (15) have a prismatic shape, are anchored immovably to
the first plate (13) and are inserted in corresponding guide slots (21), where they
may be blocked, in the second plate (14), and by the fact that said first plate (13)
can be positioned sideways on said props (15) for a bilateral positioning of the cheek-rest
above the gunstock, while the props can be adjusted in height and/or angled in said
guide slots (21) of the second plate in order to vary the height and/or the angle
of the cheek-rest above the gunstock.
2. Device according to revendication 1, in which said first plate (13) has two slotted
holes (17) at the bottom of two grooves (18), set at a right angle, in which said
props (15) are anchored to said first plate by means of stop screws (19) passing through
said slotted holes (17) and tightened in nuts (20) which are held in said grooves
(18) where they can move sideways but not rotate.
3. Device according to revendications 1 and 2, in which said props (15) are blocked in
said guide slots (21) by means of dowel screws (22) screwed to one side of the second
plate and positioned at right angles to the props, said dowel screws being accessible
via holes made in part of the stock or cheek-rest, to which the said second plate
is fixed.
4. Device according to revendication 3, in which said dowel screws (22) are tightened
directly against the props.
5. Device according to revendication 3, in which said dowel screws (22) are tightened
against the props using a small interposed plate (23) to distribute the blocking force.
6. Device according to revendication 5, in which said small plate is attached to the
second plate.
7. Device according to the preceding revendications, in which the two props are a single
body, united by a cross-piece.
