[0001] The invention relates to a roll of sheet-like material comprising a web of sheet-like
material rolled up about itself in the lengthwise direction and which defines a crosswise
leading edge, corresponding to the outside end of the roll and a crosswise trailing
edge, corresponding to the inside end of the roll and at least one band attached to
said sheet-like material in the direction of winding.
[0002] Rolls of sheet-like materials, used for the supply and storage of all kinds of sheet-like
materials, fabrics, plastics sheets, plastics or metal nets, etc are known. Such sheet-like
materials are usually manufactured continuously and are usually supplied to intermediate
clients, such as wholesalers or retailers, in the form of rolls. The end customer
usually acquires the sheet-like material from the intermediate clients by requesting
a certain amount expressed in units of length. A regular drawback is the difficulty
in knowing how much sheet-like material, expressed in units of length, remains in
a started roll, whereby it frequently happens that it is wanted to serve an end customer
from an already started roll and, while measuring the amount requested by the end
customer, it is observed that a sufficient amount is not available in the selected
roll and it is necessary to start measuring again from another roll. Another drawback,
occurring precisely to overcome the previously mentioned drawback, is the tendency
to serve always from rolls which are unstarted or almost complete, which causes an
accumulation of partly used rolls.
[0003] It is an object of the invention to overcome such drawbacks. This object is achieved
by a roll of sheet-like material of the type first mentioned above characterized in
that said band includes a number of main marks, at least one of which has combined
therewith an indication of the amount, expressed in units of length, of sheet-like
material remaining between the main mark corresponding to said indication and said
trailing edge of the sheet-like material.
[0004] Thus, it is sufficient to examine the value given on the mark closest to the outside
end of the roll to know exactly how much material, expressed in units of length, remains
available in the roll in question.
[0005] One advantageous embodiment of the invention is obtained by providing the band with
a self-adhesive surface, which simplifies the production process.
[0006] Another advantageous embodiment of the invention is obtained by providing that the
band may be easily removed by the user since, normally, once the web of sheet-like
material has been installed in its final position, there is no interest in having
the band attached thereto.
[0007] Finally, a further advantageous embodiment of the invention is obtained by including
between the main marks secondary marks positioned in such places that the distance
from said secondary mark to the closest main mark is a sub-multiple of the unit of
measurement corresponding to the distance comprised between the two main marks between
which said secondary mark is located.
[0008] Further advantages and features of the invention will become evident from the following
description in which, without any limitation, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment
of the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
[0009] Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roll of sheet-like material with a band according
to the invention.
[0010] Figure 2 is an elevation view of a detail of the band of Figure 1, in a particular
embodiment of the invention.
[0011] Figure 1 shows a roll of sheet-like material 1 comprising a web of sheet-like material
2 and a band 3. The lengthwise dimension of the web of sheet-like material is much
greater than the crosswise dimension, it is wound up along the lengthwise direction
and defines two side edges 4, which extend in the lengthwise direction, a leading
edge 5, corresponding to the outside crosswise edge of the of the web of sheet-like
material 2 and a trailing edge 6, corresponding to the terminal crosswise edge of
the sheet-like material and which is in the interior of the roll.
[0012] Figure 2 shows a particular embodiment of the invention in which the web of sheet-like
material consists of a plastics material net. The band 3 is self-adhesive on one of
the surfaces thereof and is positioned beside one of the lengthwise edges 4. The band
3 is provided with main marks 7, together with indications 8 indicating, in each case,
the amount of material available, in units of length, from the corresponding main
mark 7 to the end of the roll. Between each pair of main marks 7 there are the secondary
marks 9, positioned in places such that the distance from the closest main mark 7
is a sub-multiple of the unit of measurement corresponding to the distance comprised
between the two main marks 7 between which the secondary mark 9 is located.
1. A roll of sheet-like material (1) comprising: [a] a web of sheet-like material (2)
rolled up about itself in the lengthwise direction and which defines a crosswise leading
edge (5), corresponding to the outside end of the roll (1) and a crosswise trailing
edge (6), corresponding to the inside end of the roll (1), and [b] at least one band
(3) attached to said sheet-like material (2) in the direction of winding, characterized
in that said band (3) includes a number of main marks (7), at least one of which has
combined therewith an indication (8) of the amount, expressed in units of length,
of sheet-like material (2) remaining between the main mark (7) corresponding to said
indication (8) and said trailing edge (6) of the sheet-like material (2).
2. A roll of sheet-like material (1) according to claim 1, characterized in that said
band (3) is provided with a self-adhesive surface.
3. A roll of sheet-like material (1) according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in
that said band (3) is easily removable from the web of sheet-like material (2).

in that said band (3) is provided with a number of secondary marks (9) inserted between
each pair of said main marks (7), said secondary marks (9) being positioned in such
places that the distance from said secondary mark (9) to the closest main mark (7)
is a sub-multiple of the unit of measurement corresponding to the distance comprised
between the two main marks (7) between which said secondary mark (9) is located.
