(57) A method of cleaning a gumming device (2), whereby, during a pause in the gumming operation, a tank (17), containing an adhesive substance (3) in which a gumming roller (18) is partially immersed, is first emptied of the adhesive substance (3) and then filled at least partially with a liquid solvent substance (42) with which the gumming roller (18) is washed.
