(57) A fuel injector comprising a valve needle (10) slidable within a first bore (11),
a surface associated with the valve needle (10) being exposed to the fuel pressure
within a first control chamber (20) and movement of the valve needle (10) away from
the valve needle seating being limited by a moveable stop member (19). The stop member
(19) has a surface exposed to fuel pressure within a second control chamber (23).
The fuel injector also includes a control valve arrangement (29, 35) for controlling
the fuel pressure within the first and second control chambers (20, 23) to control
movement of the valve needle (10) and the stop member (19). The invention also relates
to a fuel injector in which the control valve arrangement is arranged to permit the
rate of valve needle movement away from the valve needle seating to be varied, in
use. |
