(54)	Lipstick dispenser with functional A-shell

(57) A lipstick dispenser uses the normally decorative A-shell (30) as a functional element by providing a plurality of longitudinal splines (36) in the interior of the A-shell. The splines fit into notches (60) in an elevator cup (52) to keep the elevator (50) in fixed relationship to the A-shell. A propel/retract mechanism is provided by lugs (66) extending from the elevator (50) that track in helical tracks (74) in a base that is secured together with the A-shell, or alternatively by a screw thread (174) on the elevator stem (56) which engages an internally threaded section (166) on the inner wall (72) of a base element (70). The base (70) has flexible upwardly extending friction tabs (80) that ride on the inside of the A-shell and provide a desired frictional drag.
