(54) A work mat

(57) A work mat(1) is provided with a surface of magnetic material (7) for retaining items such as screws and washers while the mat is being used.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a work mat.

[0002] It is a common problem, during work on equipment (such as during servicing an engine for example) that items such as screws, washers and bolts become mislaid.

[0003] According to the present invention, there is provided a work mat which is provided with a surface of magnetic material.

[0004] The pad could comprise a plastics material, for example a closed cell polyethylene foamed material.

[0005] The surface of magnetic material could be provided by a plate of magnetic material.

[0006] The surface of magnetic material could be received in a recess in the work mat. At least one additional recess with or without a surface of magnetic material, could also be provided in the work mat.

[0007] The present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:-

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a work mat in the form of kneeling mat according to an example of the present invention; and

Fig. 2 is a perspective view from above of the mat.

[0008] Referring to the drawings, a work mat in the form of a kneeling mat 1 comprises a lower layer 2 of a closed cell polyethylene (for example about 2cm thick) to which is heat laminated an upper, thinner layer 3 (for example about 5mm thick) of a closed cell polyethylene foamed material. The mat 1 is formed to have a kneeling portion 4 (for example about 40 cm x 33 cm) and a portion 5 extending from it in which is a recess 6.

[0009] The recess 6 receives a sheet 7 of magnetic material, held in the recess 6 by a press fit for example.

[0010] The kneeling mat 1 may be used by a person working on a piece of equipment, the sheet 7 being used to retain items such as screws, washers and bolts after they have been removed and before they are replaced.

[0011] Instead of being in the form of a kneeling mat, a work mat according to the invention could be of a different size to suit a particular application. For example it could be of a size whereby it is large enough for a person working on a piece of equipment to lie on it - for example the mat described by way of example could be made large enough for that purpose.

[0012] The outside profile of a work mat according to the invention could be made to suit a desired profile - for example by the incorporation in or on a surface of it of a company logo.

Claims

1. A work mat which is provided with a surface of magnetic material.

2. A mat according to claim 1 which comprises a plastics material.

3. A mat according to claim 2, wherein the plastics material comprises a closed cell polyethylene foamed material.

4. A mat according to any preceding claim, wherein the surface of magnetic material is provided by a plate of magnetic material.

5. A mat according to any preceding claim, wherein the surface of magnetic material is received in a recess in the pad.

6. A mat according to claim 5, which has at least one additional recess.
